Nashville rocks but is getting expensive... I like the little towns surrounding like Franklin, Columbia, Murfreesboro...

Tennesse is a pretty cool place to be.

What in particular do you want to know?

We got Nashville with all the country music stuff....Memphis with all it has to offer.

We got Greazy Hubcapz c.c. territory....and then there are the Poor Boys c.c.
Lots of old style hot rod stuff going on...

  5. I have lived in Memphis for 22 years and hope to move East to Nashville or beyond, when I retire. Of the three areas, my personal favorite is East TN, because of the beautiful scenery, and super people.

    OH YEAH....MEMPHIS (the city)SUCKS!

Bankrupt, stupid crooked politics, lots of welfare, piss poor work ethics, urban blight, arrogant,ass-hole mayor with city council to match, and getting worse. Absolutely the laughing stock and asshole of the entire state. Ask anybody about the Ford family or WW Herenton (King Willy), the mayor.

If you HAVE to live here, make it one of the suburbs.

I do not live there............but IF Iwas going to move......
I would to to one of the small towns outside of Knoxville......towards Gatlinburg.

No state income tax......4 seasons........winter, spring , summer and a very beautiful fall...in the Smokey Mountains.

Close to Knoxville so you are close enough NOT to be out in the sticks......
Far enough out that it can be quiet and peaceful. Small hometown attitudes....

BUT my wife will not move......she likes it here.....

    :)

  9. As you can see the good is great, the bad is still pretty damn awesome, only the ugly is intolerable (think I went out with her three times).

Knoxville and surrounding areas flat out rock. Lot of shops & cars going together in this area. We have the NATS South here in town and Shades of the Past (and literally dozens of others) just down the road in Pigeon Forge. Maggie Valley is always a fun show/swap just an hour away and Charlotte/Lowes Motor Speedway is just 4 hours away. Lowes hosts two HUGE swap meets each year and a Goodguys show in October. Nashville is 2 hours away and is getting a Goodguys show this coming summer.

TN is a beautiful place to live. I live in the far northeastern part of TN about 12 miles from the TN/VA line, Just south of Bristol. Here are a few pictures from late summer/fall.

There are really good people here and Tennessee is a very scenic state, but if I had to do it all over again I never would have left Florida to move here. I'll be back by summer (although I may be getting a job at Dell, which, if it works out to my advantage financially could force me to stay longer than I want).

It's a whole different world living in the bible belt. For a city boy like myself, this small town gig is a lot like living in hell. Although, I have to admit that small towns have their good points. I got out of a speeding ticket for doing 85 in a 35 because the cop who pulled me over was my uncle's-friend's-brother.

It depends what you're into. Nice place if you're a guy with a family looking for a nice place to settle down. Not the best place to live if you're a whiskey-guzzling whore-chasing sinner like myself. I would move to Vegas if I wasn't sure it'd kill me in under a year. On the other hand, maybe that's a good reason to actually move there! Just ignore me. I've got issues.

Near Nashville, there are about 6 drag strips, all within 1-2 hours drive time. Also many dirt ,and asphalt bullrings dot the countryside,if the left turn only racing is your thing. Cumberland run, moonshine run, etc on the original 'Thunder Road' two lanes. You can run open pipes here anytime:DSparky

  16. uhhh, back to the original question...

Like already said, it's scenic, rich in Southern heritage and history. The bigger cities like Nashville/Knoxville/Memphis/Chattanooga aren't much different from, say, Atlanta or Indy or Louisville----plenty of goods and services. Unemployment hovers at around 5%. Sales tax is 9+%, depending on the county you're in.NO state income tax. Schools are good, regardless of what's said in the media(we're NOT as backwards as is thought) Crime is no worse than anywhere else--some say it's safer here. You can go armed, with a permit, btw.;) Some of the rural areas have problems with Meth, but drugs are everywhere, so...:( Several good music venues in the cities and Nashville attracts a lot of well-known music-types as residents(yeah, they actually wanna LIVE here:confused: ) Not much "scene" here, or down south in general......
Still some good junkyards with old tin around, albeit rusty. A few swaps, shows and cruises in the middle and Eastern part. Must be something good about this place cause there's plenty of CA/MI/OH ex-patriats here:rolleyes:
I've been here in mid-Tenn all my life--wouldn't have it any other way.....cause I like a slower pace. And I like to know who my neighbors are....and who I can trust....
One of the few places I know of where people wave at you driving down the road, leave their doors unlocked, and help strangers in need without hesitation.

    Your mileage may vary.

Born and raised in Memphis. Lived on the outskirts which are nice, but the city itself sucks and is corrupt. Been in Middle TN for 5 years, came up here for school and this is where I plan to settle. Great place to live. Stay out of Memphis, its like ATL and not getting better.

    Born and raised in Livingston.

Went to school in Cookeville, I really like that area.

I had no idea that Nashville was getting a Goodguys show, that's great.

I just had a business trip out to the Jack Daniels distillery in Aug or Sept, can't remember for sure, but it's got to be one of the prettiest places I've ever seen. I spent the whole flight back trying to figure out a way to get transferred out there. People were super friendly and Nashville was hoppin'. We were getting polluted at the local bars and at some point we realized we had lost one of our guys, so we staggered out of the bar trying to find him. We came across him sitting on the curb with two homeless guys, sharing a 40 and swapping tall tales. Even the homeless people there are cool.

The best likker is north ga and east tenn. the best I ever saw was made by Popcorn Sutton. If you are ASE no proplem with a job. Its a slower pace. lots of nice folks. lots of billet, tweed, restro muscle cars, fast tractors. Dubs, led tail lights, and about 30 members of the hamb. a few shows for our type cars though. Its funny lots of people move into Tennesee but no body leaves... I am about 20 miles from the state line and about 100 miles south of music city..

chattanooga is where i hail from. its okay, just not a whole lot of opprotunity to make some decent money. this corner of the state has probably the lowest average pay for pretty much anything you can think of. if you desire to make any more than 35-40 K/ year then you probably need to look more towards knoxville or nashville or their outskirts. They usually have several automotive plants in those areas, but the saturn plant is cutting back so if you come get here soon, lol.

The other posters are right though about the kindness of the folks who live here. ive never seen any kinder folks anywheres in all my travels. usually too youll find most folks are from tennessee, not just moved here. Costs of living here is about the same as most places, just real estate seems to be a damn sight cheaper. a pack of smokes is still near $3, a gallon of gas is right at $2.10, cover charges at a "club" is usuallly $5, etc. However a mortgage for $200K gets you one helluva house in one helluva neighborhood. And we still have some of the cheapest power rates of any place in the country.

    hope this helps.

One more thing I'll give Tennessee over Florida. A lot more project cars available, and they're cheaper. I've seen old trucks around here for 2 grand that would have brought double that in Florida. There are old cars everywhere around here.

Moved out of Tennessee about 15 years ago, because of many things but mainly for a new job. Loved getting out of Memphis, but hated leaving Tennessee. Shelby county (Memphis) is nothing like the rest of the state. Don't take me wrong, Memphis is big city life and OK if you like that style, but just 30 miles away and people become real. Some of the best folks you'll ever meet. They treat you like they have known you all their life, and in a lot of cases like you're family. Be warned, Tennessee folks don't like being screwed with, just be honest with them and you'll never have any problems. And above all, don't do like the snow birds in Florida, move in and then try to change everything to the way it was where you came from. I was born and raised in St. Augustine, Florida and the main reason I left was because of everyone moving there because they didn't like the way things were done in their state then first thing you know they are trying to change your way of life to match what they are used too.

The best thing that ever happened to us, moving out here. The slower pace of will add years to your life. Lower cost of living,no state tax. Why do you think Nissan moved it's corperate headquarters here?? The few weeks of cold is bearable, unlike 'The North". Good luck to you.:DSparky

i have been all over, stayed in other places but wouldnt even think of living anywhere else. its cheap, its friendly and its easy. i can work if i want to and take the day off if i need to. the only problem is, it may be to nice.

property used to be cheap, the cost of living used to be less. however, now cookeville is full of retired gm employees and everyone else moving here to get in on the good. no problem with that, but it makes it harder for the locals. we have a 570 acre farm we bought for $360k, nine years ago. our neighbor just sold his farm 460 acres for $1.4m. so if you you are from here it is getting harder, if you are from somewhere else it seems like it is better than there, because everyone wants to be here. i love it.

old cars are in the fields/barns, land is reasonable, and the best liquor is on the fridge, in the shop, probably some in the trunk, there is some over there on the shelf, you get the point.
