    Fellas-
I saw the other thread on the LOGIN getting stolen. I know how it happened.

Scammers have imbedded ebay with bogus auctions. When you click on them they prompt you to login to ebay. The LOGIN SCREEN IS BOGUS!!!
Look up at the address line, and its something like "signinebaycomwsisapi.blogsite.org"

WATCH OUT WHEN YOU LOG IN!!!!! MAKE SURE YOU ARE ACTUALLY LOGGING INTO EBAY, and not some ghosted site that looks just like eBay!!!!

  2. Also...I've knocked them off for having the wrong copyright date at the bottom of the otherwise flawless looking page. weird...you get everything else dead-on and have the wrong copyright year?

Because of the way its doing it you can't copy the auction link or get the auction#.

Here is 1 example. Got to ebay, and search keyword:"rat rod", and sort by "Price: Highest first". Click on the 1st auction you see should be a flamed Willys pickup

EDIT: I see there is another thread about the Willy's
    http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=84111
the ebay auction # is 4598808913, DO NOT LOG IN WHEN PROMPTED!

    The auction has been reported!!!!

I'm usually pretty good at spotting these- when they are an email. However, this looks to be quite elaborate.

Let me see if I've got this straight. I'm logged in. I'm looking at listings. I click on something that I find interesting and it prompts me to log in AGAIN?

If you use the e-bay toolbar with account guard, will that catch it? I think it should. Neal

  8. hijacking ebay handles, oh what will they think of next. atleast the quality of scams are getting better, as for a long time they were quite pathetic.

I have recieved 2 emails from "ebay" that I chose not to open and look in "My eBay" to see if there was the same emails in there, neither email went to my "messages" section so I deleted the emails with out opening them, one was ***led.

"Su****ious activity on your eBay account"

    The other

"Changes to eBay user agrement and private policy"

if they are going to email you they will copy it to your messages in "My eBay" if it ain't there don't open it.

I'm having the same trouble. I have to sign in every time I change screens. I was in my Ebay watching an item I wanted to bid on and when I went to bid, I had to sign in all over again and missed the end of the auction. Strange. It's happening every time I get on Ebay the last two days.

I can't log-in, period. Someone is really going to town on their servers today, I am weary of using it at all anymore.

eBay and PayPal emails will always include your user name (eBay) or your full name (PayPal). If some emails opens with "Dear eBay user...", delete it. Also, to the best of my knowledge, when you click on a link from an official eBay or PayPal email, it will NOT ask you to log in. It will take you to an "outside" page where you must take the initiative to log in yourself.

As far as the spam when using the iste, my gut feeling is never log in unless you know why you're logging in (to place a bid ro check My eBay). If you have any doubts, I'd say contact eBay or PayPal antifraud folks and get the real answer.

    cheers

I got it. Doesn't sound like you need to do anything unless you disagree with it.

  18. Rules of thumb that should stop any phishing scam:

    Don't click on e-mail links...

and use an address bar in your browser if you don't already. If the page address doesn't begin "http://____.ebay.com ...." don't sign in. The blank can be signin, my, cgi, or some other things, and if it's a car listing it will probably be _____.motors.ebay.com. But eBay is always the second or third word after the http://.

Most phishing sites redirect you to a phony web site thats a clone of eBay - but all of them are given away by having the wrong beginning web address. Sometimes it's a numbered IP, sometimes it's some offshore server. They all include the correct "eBay" address - but where it is in the address gives away that it's a directory on the server, not the actual address.

It's possible someone's found a way to add code to a page to redirect you in an auction listing, but you should be able to view current listings regardless of being logged in or not. When you put in a description you're allowed to use about any html you want. If it is a phishing scam eventually eBay will set it up so you can't include that specific code anymore.

They have been announcing & sending that E mail message for some time now.
I had the same problem as some of you with it prompting me to reenter my p***word every time I made a move --trying to go from one page to the next of watched items .
When I read what is going on here I decided I better change my p***word.
Went in & did that , got an Email to give me access to complete the change -- I followed thos instructions & when I submitted it got an error message that the page was not available.
Instantly I get am E mail saying my P***word change had been made.
Now the Kicker !! The IP address & the host ISP adress on the first request is completely different from what the last Email said the request was made from.
I went to Ebay to try to figure it out , but when it calls for me to enter a p***word --the secure sign in logo & thre little lock icon are not there , so I am hesitant to go any farther --- now what?
Does E bay have a actual phone number?

I've been using the software from the above link for a while now and it seems to work well. It clearly shows the site you're on and is worth checking out.

If you go look at announcements on Ebay, in their comunity section, it says for the last couple of days, they have had sign in problems. They said it's fixed, but it isn't.

While Sign In issues appeared to be resolved earlier this morning, we are aware that some members may be having intermittent issues or slowness signing in. We are continuing to work on this problem and appreciate your patience.

  26. I was getting questions from ebay guys that I'd never done business with saying variations on "where's my money?"

I always forward any and all su****ious **** to s****@ebay.com (or s****@paypal.com for a paypal-oriented email). Damn if I don't always seem to get back a message saying that it's bogus.

BTW I highly recommend not allowing html to be displayed on any email program. I got a buddy who owns some servers and does web design & hosting; he told me that just opening an email w/ html in it can load sneaky **** into your computer. I use squirrel mail to read the email at my website and am running firefox instead of IE (had popups and couldn't get virus/malware/firewall stuff to cut 'em all out).

Whatever you do; don't click on any ****ing thing in an email. I learned the hard way once... it ****ed.

    Happy Festivus!

  28. Here is another tip=
DO NOT attempt to go to your "my eBay" page, from ANY link in ANY email.....

Simply go to your bookmarked/favorites list and got to your MY EBAY page from there....its just common sense, don't be  Hoo-Doo'd ,folks!

Also as indicated above,as you get ready to log in ANYWHERE for eBay use, simply look at the address bar at the top and see what the listed URL/http:// .........is and make sure it's secure, before typing in your p***word.

  29. Oh ****! i won a pr of 55-7 fenderwell headers and had to relog to bid ,no response from him as yet after 2 days ,I figured he would want to get his money ,not a small amount,I wonder

    HI all
I sell on ebay often, and sometimes I insert my email address in the auction add. I then get all those privacy, security, account probes in that secondary email account on yahoo. The secondary email is posted in the adds.

But that yahoo account is one of 2 I have. One is for me, and the other is just for people wanting my email address. The sleaze people harvest those email address' off ebay, and send the phish attempts to the secondary email. My real ebay mail comes to my primary account. So, when I see those people acting like they are ebay, in my secondary email, I delete them because I know its definately fake.

Even with that step, I still get the scam mail, phishing attempts in my primary mail account. Its non stop war! Its been going on a long time too.
