Wow... I just did a double take when I logged in here. To have my car as the avatar, chosen by my peers is an honor- no ****.

Nice to have you back with us Jeff, and thanks to everyone here for making this group great!!!

Awwww shucks..... If you look close, you will see the "Ol Girl" blushing in the pic....

She's getting a new crate motor real soon! It's a dyno 335 hp with a 700R4! Her old motor/trans is going into a buddy's 37 Plymouth sedan (his throttle spring broke and the motor let go under full throttle before his wife thought to turn off the key!

    Congrats, Geno!

Your friend's experience is yet another vote for having dual throttle springs. This often-overlooked safety feature has cost lives as well as motors...

Also, on your motor swap: be sure to review your rear end ratio. Many high-performance engines are NOT HAPPY in 4th gear at 55 mph with a 700R4. They need to be turning faster to run smoothly and efficiently.

A stock motor can turn 1800 or so at cruise and be both happy and efficient because of its lazy cam, cam timing and computer controlled ignition timing and mixture control. A non-computer high performance engine, on the other hand, often needs to see 2200 to 2500 at cruise to be equally happy.

Be aware, also, that running a higher than stock stall speed converter will free up your motor to idle freely in gear at stop lights, but will also delay lockup at cruise speed. This can have many negative consequences including excess heat and, more importantly, logy throttle response at around-town speeds. This logy throttle response can also extend well into the cruise range if your rear gear ratio is too low (numerically) as the converter will still be slipping at cruising speeds.

So, don't be snowed by the go-fast crowd who swear that a higher stall speed behind a modified motor is ALWAYS better. It MIGHT be better, but it also MIGHT be a whole lot worse. (This opens up a **** storm of controversy, so watch out!)

    My $.02

    :)

Glad you mentioned it Eric.... I'm looking for a 3:55 ratio or something similar for the 74 Ford 8 inch rear.

If I'm not mistaken, SlmLrds car has already been picked? Regardless, its a helluva car and is always deserving. I think missydad's photoshop would be a good avatar sometime soon. Just an idea
