So i'm taking the front clip apart to start doing some clean up on this car and I notice that someone has cut a section out of the front splash pan (using a drill no less). Trying to understand why, I pulled the radiator out of the trunk and lined it up in the cord support, the damn thing appears to be "backwards"... NO CLUE, the splash pan/stone guard is factory original to the car, the radiator is properly placed but the two do not work together... I have no idea............... any chance someone has a good photo or two of a 54 customline radiator you could post here?? I'd like to see what I'm dealing with... and secondly, does anyone have a parts car that has a splash pan for sale?
I don't have any pictures of my radiator now that its in my car, but my splash pan was cut too. I don't have any understanding why they would have cut the pan since the radiator that I took out went to a 1970 Mach1. I almost put my core support in backwards on purpose so that the radiator would be back enough to put the mechanical fan back in the pulley but it seemed like an easier job to place it the right way and use an electric fan. I have a 351W in my car so its quite a spacial problem with an engine that large. I know in the past there was a splash pan for sale on ebay but I'm not sure if it was sold. If you can wait a little over a week I will be back home and can take a picture of the radiator that I have in my car.
mine was cut in my 55. its cut to move the rad forwards twords the bumper to give more fan clearence with the newer engines.
Here's the link to the radiator and splash shield/support stuff that was discussed a month or so ago; maybe it'll help at least for reference: http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/group.php?do=discuss&group=&discussionid=16531
Ferrell, I have one from a 54 Crestline sitting in my barn. I'll check out the condition and figure out what its worth to me. I see you are in transportation. This piece is big and would cost to ship. Know anybody that travels highway 64 through TN? Could get a 52-56 group parts transfer effort going like others on the HAMB are doing.
Mine was cut too, which was very odd since the car had the stock radiator with the stock six cylinder engine. I had to cut it more to fit in an aftermarket radiator supporting a V8 swap.
Well, that explains a lot then, maybe the last person that owned this car, had a newer / larger engine in it and moved the rad & core support forward. Thank you for the update info... helps a lot
