Great find. Keep us posted with pics.

  2. Just goes to prove how stylish mid to late 30's pick-ups are! You are truly one lucky guy, although I'm sure it took a lot of time and cunning to make the deal!

I plan on getting her running today...I think that will be easier than getting the truck stopped...Brake fluid that has sat for 40 years can't be good... I will have disconnect everything and total flush it..I will post updates....EVILT

You guys really have no idea....this truck is just nuts. I was with EVILT in the barn, it is one wild place but the owner is a tool (no offense to tools). The stuff in there is just amazing and there are boxes everywhere, many of which may have parts in them. I doubt the owner will ever let another car go though. He wouldn't even let me come back with J to pick up the truck.

EvilT is a barn find magnet. He can find anything and everybody will sell to him, it is nuts.

And the truck is perfect. We worked for a while on it today, lights working but no sparkie. I think that we will have it running tomorrow when all of the tune up parts arrive. Pretty sure there is a dead mouse in the radiator though....stinky.

  8. oh wow my ol` man had one of those when i was a kid! green cab ,black fenders ,the exhuast was split behind the manifold and there was a stack pipe on the drivers side. The ol' man put a 53 plymouth six in it and ran it great. he got it from a family friend who was selling their farm and asked him if he wanted it. of course he said yes and the rest as they say is history. sure wish I had kept that one.

Saw one of these in Bailey, CO last year. It was for sale at the time. The guy said they were originally produced for dealers to use as a parts runner and were not actually offered for sale to the public. I really like the lines of the grille and front fenders. Hope you can get it to fire up.

RE: "1938": '38s have a very unique grille where the splash apron 'terminates' the grille, which is very vertical:[IMG]

    '36s have fender-mounted headlights:

Tho the grille (the angled bars & the grilled center section) don't match anything in my resources exactly, it definately looks much more like a '37:

Hey that last pic looks just like the '37 Plymouth Sedan delivery that I'm building! Thanks for posting the pic! I wouldn't even think of keeping the original flat 6 engine though! Gotta be MOPAR though. I'm looking pretty hard at slipping a 360 Dodge V8 and 833 4 speed in my '37.

Well, seen as I have the truck in front of me....The firewall plate says it is a 38. I have ran all the numbers and it comes back as a 38..I have several do***ents showing it is a 38. I have pics of 38's that look just like mine. I have also seen them with your grille. The family I got it from has owned it forever. I have the original paperwork with the date it was first bought from the dealer...Guess what.... It's a 38....The dealer's family had it until 1966 then it was sold to the family I got it from in 1966...Then put in the barn in 1967...Sat there till 1 week ago....I am the third owner...Just goes to show you(WQ59B) When you think you know everything about a specific model....something new pops up.I have been told by a few diff. Mopar nuts, That these trucks were built from parts they had to use up..So the same model year could have diff. grilles or front aprons.etc depending when in the year it was built...EVILT

Fair enough- same thing has happened a few times in history: late '69-style Camaros & Firebirds were coded, ***led & registered as '70s due to the strike that delayed the next generation. I have never seen any of them referred to as "'70s" since then however, and I'm surprised there are dual ( '37-style & '38 style) '38 truck designs readily considered so today, especially when Plymouth used model years instead of series (as Packard did). Live & learn... good luck with the truck.

as cool as it is with the origonal 6 I'd just have to transplant a baby Hemi.and a 4 spd. I'm thinking either a 241 or a 270. Either would have a tri-power and as much as I'm not a fan of air ride I'm thinkinking it would be cool to have on this truck for slow speed cruising.

Congrats, That's probably a once in a lifetime find.

    Frank

P.S. Call or PM when you want me to pick it up.;) NO rush, enjoy it for awhile, I'm patient.

  30. I think 36 was the last year for the crank out windshield. Definately a must have feature.
