As expected, there is a group for the recent purchase, a 1952 Ford Mainline! Great to see appreciation for these cars!

The car is pretty clean, but needs a little work. Most importantly, the steering box needs to be rebuilt or replaced. Ugh! My mechanic already inspected the drag link, tie rods, pitman arm, etc. Somebody already adjusted the box and now it appears to need rebuilt or replaced.

A quick look through the usual Ford catalogs revealed many parts available, but no complete kit for '52?

What have folks done here to address the steering box in this situation?

    Richard

I can't see how to add images of the car from my hard drive? Any advice?

The car runs really well. The tank is getting flushed right now to clean up particles I've been getting in the fuel line. But with a gl*** pack, the motor sounds pretty neat. I think headers and new smithys would make it even better!

Red's Headers and Porter steel packs are perfect on a flatmotor. Just ask anyone...

BTW: Porter Mufflers is a HAMB Alliance Vendor and offers cool discounts to HAMB members...but don't tell anyone. It's a HAMB secret...okay?

Good eye! Notice the lack of bumper bolt on the ends. The inner bracket of course does not match so I need to fabricate a piece to make it solid again.

Not that it matters for you, because you're making your own bracket, but I can snap some pictures of the '54 end bracket sometime soon? I'm sure you've got an idea in your head of what you need it to look like, but I'm just putting that option out there!

Welcome to the group from Ca. Nice 52. I am not sure if a Jeep Cherekee power steering box will work in a 52 frame. I have installed this type of box in my 54's & 55. The -stig has help me by posting the pictures from my album of how I did conversion. I still am having problems being able to do this. It works really well on these old fords.

Thanks for the great welcome fellows!

Custom Crestline, Pics of that bracket when you have a chance would be great! Thanks for the offer.

Charles, I looked at your steering box installation and was very impressed! I wondered about other boxes from other cars. You did a nice job fabricating that unit, though I have to admit that was well beyond my skill set! I ***ume you had to shorten your steering shaft?

I found a complete rebuild kit from Concours parts but it was expensive for $285! The kit included worm gear and shaft, bearings and races, sector roller gear, sector bushings, sector seal, adjusting screw with locknut and a complete gasket set. I also found a used box and shaft on bay for $65 but I'm not confident on the actual condition so will avoid that option.

    Any other thoughts?
