i like 500 cads for the torque i have bored and stroked it to 550 cid easy low cost build using bbc rods offset grinding crank to increase stroke plus overbore.. u can find used 500 cad engines at wrecking yards for around 300.00 that run well

I'll second the 500 caddy, high torque from the factory (500ft/lbs +) my 56 caddy has one in it,along with my 70 coupe de ville, and the salt flats car.Had one in my 94 1ton chevy truck for a while too ,pretty light for there size too, with an aluminum manifold fitted they weigh the about the same as a stock 350 chevy.I'm also a big fan of the ***mins 6bt.I have a bunch of caddy core motors laying around if anybody is interested.

Hey, I am a caddy lover as well. great engine a 1970 elderado made 400hp+ 650ft.lbs of torque @ 1700rpm and weighs only 35lbs more than small block chevy, that is impressive . About ten years ago I built a 540 cad. I developed/built a girdle for heads accomodating screw in studs and bbc roller rockers then fabbed some valve covers, then fabbed a tunnle ram with tophat fuel inj., cam drive pump etc. comp. was @ 14.1 that thing was unbelievable it was ran in a 2wd drive pulling truck cl***( nat. aspirated) it was very competetive with the other very high dollar motors.

I want to put a Duramax in my GMC. From information I've gathered the Duramax has a reputation of having fewer problems. I have an LS in my pickup. I have over 220,000 and it is still going strong. I plan on putting an LS in my other project, my 36 chevy pickup.
