I am going crosseyed looking at page after page of tire websites. I am looking for tires to fit my 36 Ford pickup. The ch***is is heading towards being ready for rollers and I have a few issues. First, I would prefer a tire built in the US. Secondly, I am after a certain "look", I like the straight tread patterns. I want big n littles....i.e 550-15's on front, 750-820's on rear. Lastly, I want a tubeless bias ply tire. Now I just wonder how many independant companies that produce bias tires are still in existance? I know Coker has the molds for quite a few tires. I see where Denman is still in business but they only show 1 tire on their page for p*** car. I do ask that this not be turned into a bias v radial thread. I have researched this and understand the differences. Thanks
I agree, it's a challenge . I'm a Cooper Tire dealer. They're made in Findley Ohio. Unfortunatly, no bias tires in the lineup.I have connections to most major brands, if anyone has any ideas........
There are a few outfits making bias plies for trailer use...try your local camping trailer guy OR trailer sales outlet. I bought a pair of 7:00X15's for my pick-up...6 ply..made in Costa Rica (at least they aren't Commies like the Chinese)....paid about $59.00 each
Thanks Krooser, I have been looking at trailer tire websites but the problem I am running inot is that they only have the sizes for the rear. I need a 550-15 for the front if possible.
Runnin 5.60-15's on the front and L78-15's on the back of my coupe...Coker Cl***ics...I think that the fronts were about $74 a piece, and the rears were about $78 a piece...those are wide whites...I think that the blackwalls were cheaper...
The Bias Ply tires that Coker carries are made by S.T.A. in PA. They have Firestone and BFG in the 560 & the 820's....
So...the Firestones and the BFG are made in the US? I was told that the BFG were made in 2 plants, 1 in Mexico and the other in Alabama. And for you funny guys, I know Alabama is in the US, but I was told that you may never know which plant your tires come from.
i bought my tires from lucas automotive, no website. one store is in long beach and the other is on ohio. 1-800-735-0166 2141 west main, springfield, oh. 45504 i think mine are the columbia brand, but there's denman, lester, dunlop, lucas, firestone, goodyear, general, universal. here's a couple more sites : www.universaltire.com www.longstonetires.com www.kelseytire.com
Hi guys... Here's a few facts about our production. We have about 800 molds in production in a number of factories here and abroad. Just about all of our BFGoodrich, Firestone and Coker Cl***ic bias ply tires are made here in USA by either STA (used to be McCreary) in PA and Denman in Ohio. We have some Coker Cl***ic and BFG radials made at a Michelin licensed plant (Tornel) in Mexico. We also have some of our cl***ic radials made here in USA too. We don't have any tires made in Alabama...that's a foreign country....Go BIG ORANGE! We do have some small numbers of clincher tires made in Vietnam...about the only place I could source them...they are built by hand. We also have the early High Pressure tires for br*** cars made in a factory in India. There are fewer and fewer bias ply tire manufacturers any more. We continue to have a harder time sourcing our bias ply tires because most factories have stopped completely. For the 550-15 fronts n 820-15 rears I suggest either BFG or Firestone in blk or whitewall. We also have a cool racing tire in Excelsior brand (pretty pricey because they are designed for racing and are V speed rated, ece and dot tested and marked) but they are cool. I drove a set on my Shafer 8 Indy car in the Great Race this last year and they kick ****! Best to you guys! Corky Coker
Just a qiick not I have had my 'stones www(5.?? and 7.00) for about 5 months now and have enjoyed them thoroughly. Have well exceded the posted legal limit on a couple of occasions and absolutely have had no prooblems. The ride is fine although they do track a little in hte rain groves, but that is part of a hotrod right? Again nothing but positives on Cokers Firestones. p.s. This is not a paid testimonial. Just like to spread the word on a good product. Shane T
