1952-59 Ford Saginaw Steering box bracket

Discussion in 'Off Topic Hot Rods & Customs' started by Rockabillykat666, Mar 12, 2011.

  1. i finally got around to scanning the bracket for installing a delphi steering box into a 52-56 ford car. this is going into my 55 fairlane. pictures of this steering box have been posted already so i'm not gonna waste bandwidth..hope this helps and i also saved the bracket file as a pdf but i don't know how to upload it. hell i'm not even sure if the scanner made it actual size.. these are my measurements using a stanley tape measure..hopefully they are acurate enough.

Thanks Rocky for the layout of the adapter plate .
Are you going to have it done for Latimore ? How about your girlfriends wagon ? Getting anything done on that one too ?

I have a lot of work to do on mine in 8 weeks and not sure if I will be able to get it all done . If the engine and trans gets in and hooked up I will bring the car with out any paints on it or at least most of it gone and some body parts missing !
I will be there with or without my 55 so I will look you up and check yours out .
See you in about 8 weeks !

    Jim

Hey Rockabillly, I sent you a PM asking if we could work out a deal to trade an extra Delphi gear box I have for one of your brackets. Did you get it, I still have the gear box and would like to work something out. PM me if you are interested in a trade, or, if you don't need the gear box, I'll be happy to buy a bracket and pay shipping. Question for you or the group, I have a Saginaw, tilt, telescopic steering column out of an 89 Cadillac. Does anyone know if I can mate it up with the Delphi gear box and the Rockabilly bracket in my 54 Customline?
    Thanks ALL,
    Trikepapa-RonC

Just about any steering column can be adapted, it will have to be modified just like any other column. the parts used may or may not be the same as were using with stock columns but it can be done.

  11. what size is the end of the steering shaft? the steering box is 18mm DD. Borgeson has a complete line of ragjoints and steering couplers to join any column to any box. Ford's steering shaft is 3/4" smooth. I used an 18mm DD to 3/4" DD ragjoint off the box and a 3/4"DD x 3/4" smooth coupler with a small piece of 3/4"DD shaft between the two so it was easier to cut to fit.

Saw you are running an auto in your 55. Will the steering box you are discussing work with an original 55-56 clutch linkage?

    Thx
