Called up EMS this morning expecting to buy pretty much all of what I need for the '53 in regards to patch panels, and was told they don't have ANYTHYING for it other than a rocker panel. Really? I thought they had it all but the lower front fender piece they are still tooling for...guess not.

It looks like Surplus Supply Company is the only place I can buy:
    1) Both left and right lower rear quarter sections
    2) Both left and right lower front fender sections
    3) Right side rocker panel.

So, my question now is... where do I buy:

Both lower "front" sections for the rear quarters???

Anyone have any tips or leads on it?

(sigh) like these old girls are sometimes, I thought it would be one phone call and done...lol...but nope, gonna have to romance this portion of the build too it looks like! ;)

    Thanks!

Surplus Supply Co. lists the left side, QPFS-5-L @ $125.00, but not the right side. Probably ran out of them...

If your right side rust is on the "flat" section of the lower quarter and does not extend into the windsplit, or "scoop", area, you can roll 18 ga. sheet metal over an oxygen bottle to get the slight curve you need.

If the bottom edge is gone as well, you can put a break into the bottom of the curved panel you've just made and splice the whole works into place. Retain as much of the existing panel as you can to provide support for the new panel.

Hopefully EMS is in the process of creating panels for this application. Might be worth asking them...

AHHH! ****. I looked right past that one. You are correct. I see that listed now. Thanks!

That area is actually just rusty right in the lip of the wheel opening, probably three inches long by and inch or so high... might just have to "fashion" a piece for that side.

Thanks for the tips on that!

Damn I thought they had just about all the Fords covered !
Try Obsolete Ford parts and Macs to see if they have someone else to get them from . Also try Ebay and see if they have anything .
You might have to track down a donor or start learning to make the pieces yourself and tack weld them in place . If you have most of what shape you need made that will give you a pattern to work from .

What all parts do you need replaced ?

    Hi Jim,
    I need:
    - lower front fender patch panels for both sides,
    - lower rear part of the quarter patch panels for both sides,
    - lower front of the quarter patch panels for both sides
    - and one rocker panel, but those are everywhere.

The rust that the car has is in those little corner wheel opening spots is rusted through, but all the metal is there...I suppose if I jabbed at it I could poke a scratch-all through it, but it's still "solid" for the most part, so if I had to learn to hammer the shape out of a flat piece of stock, that could be done.

The rest of the car is flawless, still all its original self.(my great-aunt's - South Dakota car).

This about the best shot I have that shows the rust that it has. Both sides in the same spots mind you.

I think I'd be pokin' and prodin' with my pig sticker before I ordered any parts. It looks like your rust is very localized and probably won't need big panels.

While fixing small holes with fabricated patches still requires good bodywork skills, it's much easier than fitting big panels, in my opinion.

    My $.02.

From what I can see from the pictures , the parts are bad down on the drivers side near the rocker & fender . You can make a patch for that . It looks like there is just a curve and thats it . On a curve like that use your leg to bend it until it fits then cut out the bad section that needs to be fixed and carefully tach weld the patch in .
I would get some 18 ga and carefully make those pieces and weld them in place .

I've got two pair of front fender patch panels laying on my bench. I had to make em for my 54 Ranchwagon. Since I had the buck made I just knocked out some extras. I had posted about them on 54 Ford Club forum but did'nt get much interest. Pm me but please be patient as work takes me a looonng way from home.

Tony , I would take a grinder with a flap wheel and take some paint off above the rust to see how far it goes . Those areas aren't that bad to make . The cut the old out and make a patter from that , then weld the new piece in .
For the fender wells you can get some angle pieces from Eastwood and either use a shrinker to get the curve or just "pie cut" the edge and form it that way . Once you have the curve at the correct angles , then cut the old out and weld the piece in . Then where you have the pie cuts , just take s**** pieces and cut some pieces out to fill in the sections then just weld them in .
Grind the welds down and skim coat with good filler and you have the rust taken care of . You don't have to be a great metal man to make those pieces . Just take your time and it will turn out just fine . Just remember that a grinder and some good filler will be your friends in this repair !
Also one more thing ...YOU CAN MAKE THOSE REPAIRS !!!! :)

I had the same problem.. I needs to replace my front qtrs and rear qtrs, and the rear roll pan. Took me a long time to find out i can't find the fronts. So I had to roll them myself ( except the rears)

I met a local guy in Arlington that solved his lower rust problem by cutting the bottom out completely.
