  3. it's for the Delphi 26057628. I know 99 Jeep grand cherokee's had them.I'm not sure what else they came out of. This is a copy of the bracket i got with the kit from ebay # 160507595092. you'll need countersunk bolts which i'll try to find out if the hardware store carries them and give you guys the part # but i'll also include the instructions and parts list. the only thing i didnt do to the brackets was thread the 3/8 hole as i don't have anyway of doing this right now.. I'd be happy with $20 and that price is just for guys here in the social group.

For those who are looking for the Delphi box. I buy mine thru Napa. They sell for 150.00 with exchange or 225.00 outright. These are rebuilt and come with a guarranty. For this price why buy a junk yard part that you don't know it's condition.

I may have to get one of these. Who has actually done this conversion, anyone? I can find much on it, as to what all you need, and how to do it? Is there some info out there on this swap?

You know, once we get P/S, we can start looking at hydro boost for the brakes :). Friend of mine just robbed a mini van and installed it on his ol' Scout, it will stand on end when you hit the brakes now.

  18. Here's an update on my Power steering install. I could not remove pitman arm from drag bar, ended up taking off tie rods, removing idler arm bracket (because i could not remove the idler arm) and removed steering box with everything still connected. with everything out and on the bench the only thing i was able to accomplish today was removing the nut that holds the pitman arm on. my pitman arm puller does not seat and grab the pitman arm properly so i have to look for a new smaller one. also the idler arms like said before will not come off..not even with impact gun. I'm already in it..so there's no turning back..also, my driver's side exhaust flange is going to hit the new steering box. not sure what modifications will have to be done to correct this.

    Johnny ,
If there is a way you can freeze the pitman arm and box that will make it a tad smaller and might be enough to pull it off . The pitman remover , are you using the cheap U shape with the bolts down the center or the one that slides over the arm that looks like a 1/2 circle that slide over the one side of the arm . That's the better ones to use and the old ones .
If the freezing doesn't work have to tried to put the pitman puller on real tight and try heating the pitman flange on the opposite side of the are . Heat works well also but make sure there are no rubber gaskets on the steering box that might melt from the heat . I have had the red before they would let loose before .

As for hitting the exhaust flange can you grind some off to make it work ?

  20. i'm most worried about the drag link bar..cause i was beating on it to get the pitman loose.. what's inside the drag link that can break or go bad? also the idler arms WILL NOT come off..i'm gonna put it in a vise and use a breaker bar to see if i can pop it loose.

Just don't bent the drag link , nothing inside when it's solid rod .
Is there a garage around you that will pull that pitman for you ? The only thing to worry about on the front end is not to bend the parts ! The idler arm is solid also . The only hollow pieces are the tie rod adjusters .

  22. the section of drag link that the pitman connects to has internal parts, there's a ball stud, 2 springs and the housing for the ball stud. they make rebuild kits but i decided to take mine apart for inspection and everything looked good cept for 50 year old grease and whatnot..so i cleaned everything off till it looked new grease it all up put it back together and it's as good as new. and the idler arm took a lot of muscle but it came off as well..i just need new bushings. tie rods are good too..just need new rubber caps for those..I broke a pitman arm puller trying to get it off the gear box. so i used a tie rod seperator and a really big hammer..came right off..it's ready to be sent out and modified to fit the new steering box..

  23. here ya go jim..these are the internal parts i was worried about..

OK I know what some are but some there I am not sure what they are for .
OK the part with the bolt & ball goes on the pitman arm and the square parts goes on the top of the pitman arm then the part with the ball goes on next then the lock nut with cuts in it goes on the bottom the the cotter pin . The cup looking parts i think goe around the ball and the other parts I would have to see the parts to figure them out .
The other parts got me puzzled but think they are for another year maybe . I believe you got a universal kit to cover a few different years . I looked them up on the disc I have on my computer and can't figure where the other parts go .

  25. i didnt need the rebuild kit. i just took the drag link apart and fixed up what i had..all it needed was a good cleaning and regreased. i just wanted to show ya what was inside the drag link of 54-56 ford p***enger cars with manual steering.

This is something I plan on changing on mine next, Mine has slack in it. I hope it comes with instructions because thats alot of pieces.

  27. it was very easy and you really dont need the kit..best thing to do is just take the drag link off, take out the cotter pin and there's a huge slotted screw that you will either need a fat screwdriver or do what i did and that was with a 4 way tire iron..just makes it easy to unthread the screw.. and just pull the springs and ball stud out clean them up and put them back in with new grease. if you just have slack then you might not need to remove any of those pieces..just take out your drag link and tighten that big screw 1 turn and see if that makes everything better..there's really nothing that can go bad on these parts..just remember that cotter pin you'll probably have to replace it and make sure there's a grease fitting on there too..sometimes they break or fall out.

  28. By the way, i had lots of people interested in the brackets. since it's a pain to PM everyone. If you want a bracket please PM your EMAIL address and i'll send you an invoice for payment. the bracket is $20.00 and shipping is $10= $30.00 total within the USA. and for you out of state guys i still have to check shipping costs..
