If it's Portland, Or you're going to, a trip out to SAR (Steve's Auto Restoration) in Gresham probably should be on your list of things to do. Also, visit with Dee Wescott out in Damascus, he's a great guy who's been building cars for 50+ years and absolutely fascinating to talk to. Keith Roland is another guy worth seeking out, also been building cars (hotrods, sprint cars, Indy cars, Bonneville, etc.) for around 50 years and a hell of a machinist. Sorry, I don't remember his address (a few blocks off 82nd & Johnson Creek, I just remember how to get there). I've never met him, but you might try meeting Lonnie Gilbertson (Gilbertson Machine) close to SE 7th & Belmont, he had a T roadster that won the AMBR at Oakland. Gilbertson could tell you how to get to Keith's house. Russ Meeks in Milwaukie off SE Mcloughlin on Silver Springs is another one of those old school builders you should look up (the 30 Model A roadster he built for John Corno years ago won the AMBR also) if you get the chance. He had a shop fire wipe him out a couple of months ago (ceramic coatings business) and might welcome someone to talk hotrods with. Russ is really into LSR at Bonneville and knows many local builders and could direct you to their shops. Many, many others, but these were the first to pop into my brain. Portland has been a hotbed for years and years, it's just cold and/or wet and miserable in the winter.

    HeyTwofosho,
I visited with Dee Wescott almost 20 years ago. I picked up several bodies for customers & myself, stayed about 2-1/2hrs. Great guy & shop. I own body #4 of their of their 34 line,I'd like to have them re-do some of the stuff on it, but it has held up great over the course of almost 20yrs. I like that no rust feature of gl***, especially when we go to Bonneville.
I'll give Dave Brost a call @ Streve's and get directions to the shop, I'm basically staying in Gresham. so that will be sweet!!!!!!! Dave Brost & his father own my buddy Oscar's old Bill Burke built Bonneville car that has been put back on the street & cruises around with a sweet lil flatty.
Would like to meet some hambers too.
    Thanks again,
    Kevin

At the daughter's place in Northridge right now (late friday afternoon), getting ready to head over to Bob's in Toluca Lake. Heading back to PDX first part of next week, right into the busiest time of the year at work, lots of O T most likely. Here's my Email address - conductorblg@sbcglobal.net - send me an Email and I'll give you my cell number. I'll try to come up with more specific addresses, phone numbers, and directions for rod shops in the area. I think it would be nice to meet a fellow hamber for coffee, or take in a happy hour (lots of places around the Portland area with those) at least. Maybe some other local hambers could join in, too, anyone?

  6. Twofosho,

Kinda cold here for LA, not sure what kind of a showing you are going to get at Bob's tonight. Still always a good time there anyway's.

    Kevin,
Sorry, I left before I saw your last post and didn't realize you might go to Bob's. I might try to get to Autobooks in Burbank tomorow, (I picked up their Sat morning cruise in flyer at Bob's, I wanted to go there one more time before I leave, anyway). Oh well, back to PDX on Monday.

Hey ya'll, how ya doin'? My girl and I are thinking about relocating from Ohio to Eugene, Portland, or somewhere on the coast like Newport. I was all for it until hot rods popped up into my head. Does anyone know what the scene is like? Are there any clubs there?
