1952-59 Ford ideas for trunk release cable location???

Discussion in 'Off Topic Hot Rods & Customs' started by alteredpilot, May 4, 2011.

  1. i looked at missysdad's idea, however my sedan doesn't have the riser that his car has.

i was thinking of buying a REALLY long cable if i can find one and running it all the way up to the emergency brake handle bracket. or maybe just running up through the package tray just behind the crown of the rear seat back....

what if any ideas do you guys have?

    thanks.

what about an electric solenoid, probably similar to any late model with a trunk release. this is what my 54 has. I didnt install it so I cant tell you what it came off of, but it works really well. then you could put switch anywhere you want. hope it helps

If you have a Pick n Pull close by you might look at a '99-2001 Daewoo Nubiria they have a floor mounted lever by the drivers seat with a long cable.

you could also find one the that has a push ****on (electric solenoid) that mounts in the glovebox. kinda like some caddys had.

Technically the package tray location would make sense, and I've seen 'em there, but it just doesn't look good in my humble opinion. The cable I used was about as long as I'd recommend due to internal friction in the curved areas. My only alternative suggestion would be to go electric.

i only suggest the cable release for the trunk as thats probably where the jumper cables are kept when your battery dies.

For anyone interested I used a 89 Toyota camry trunk lock ***embly. I made a bracket and mounted the lock on the rear body panel where original striker was. On the deck lid I made a plate and mounted the toyota striker. With the lock on the lower body panel I was able to use a cable as back up to the power solonoid. Camry's come with a long cable that I hid ......... ? I have this set-up on both 54's & 55.

For us people with a fordor , can use the shorter cables and hid them at the back seat ! I am going to put mine there as a back up when the trunk release doesn't work . A common choke cable kit should make it or be very close !
Well off to the Vets this morning with my little guy ! He is still going and not giving up that easily yet !
