i'm tired of my car sounding like a milk truck, it just doesn't sound right:confused:
so.....i'm looking for proven combinations that will give a nice agressive sound,
without killing me on long drives.
i've got a 62 biscayne with a small(12 inch) resonator with a side exit in front of the rear wheel, the car is real low so i don't really want anything to big or that will hang to low.it came with this exhaust on it, i like how it looks but i'm open to anything.

Tried and true... split manifold, duals all the way out the back, and gl*** packs. I like smithys.

Ditto. the further foward you place the mufflers, the louder it will crack

If the '62 still has the 235 engine, repop Fentons make the most noise. Splitting the manifold sounds almost the same if you block it completely, plus the heat riser can be retained. We use the $17.95 red "barrel" mufflers, usually found in a barrel by the door at Checker "parts houses", as they sound as good as anything you can buy currently. Buy a new 6 cyl. headpipe, both tailpipes for 8 cyl. factory duals, build a dual side headpipe to match the looks of the stocker on the left, and you got it...you'll likely want to alter the TPs to exit under the bumper unless you have driveways to deal with.
    Thanks for reading,

I like the idea of split manifolds, but for an aggressive sound, you might want to look at the magnaflow round mufflers. nice tone, excellent construction, and affordable.

Imco ehaust makes thick wall aluminized mandrel bends that will make getting them under the car ALOT easier.

I gotta get some pic's of the underside of Buzzards 58. his is a v8, but it is an x frame, so you can at least see where the tricky parts are...

Try spintech mufflers site they have oval exhaust pipe as well as smaller mufflers for tighter spaces also have sound clips.

A few years ago I had a friend ask me to check why his wife's Mach I was making so much noise when she had just got new mufflers.
I drove the car about 100 ft and stopped because it was like being inside a friggin cannon and looking under the car saw that the brain surgeons who installed the mufflers had welded steel staps to the back of the mufflers and then welded the other end of the strap directly to the floor under the rear seat with no insulators at all, making for one big sheet metal b*** speaker amplifying the exaust note inside the car!

Make sure all your hangers are of the insulated rubber or strap type, and that the exhaust isn't touching the body anywhere.

(I bet its got a strap going to the rocker panel causing it to echo inside the car.)

so...it seems split manifolds with duals are the way to go for what i'm looking for, i hope it's not too loud.
is it going to be a problem to wrap that other exhaust pipe under the frame on to the other side of the car?
anyone want to recommend a source for the split manifold, or a brand that i should look for.
thanks for all the advice, and if anyone has any other suggestions, keep'em coming!

If you end up using Fentons, I think I've got a pair of headpipes from a Fenton equipped '61 Chevy that you could use. Run the longest gl***packs you can fit under the car, send the tailpipes out under the rear bumper, and get ready for some music.

  10. take the displacement of the engine, determine which rpm you want to tune it for. crunch the numbers (generate the sine curve as a function of inches for the exhaust) it will generate a length...that is where you step the exhaust to create an extaction effect...then follow the rest of the ideas...

A split manifold is the stock manifold, with another outlet welded on, and a plate blocking one half from the other. Something you make, not buy.
