Well, actually, it doesn't...but it's an interesting topic - to me anyways. Jeff, on the other hand, may not think so, in which case he is totally free to send this post back where it came from... But... A problem has emerged in my life: too many cars. Can anybody relate? I thought so. See, even if I live long enough to finish 'em all...which is highly doubtful...I'd have to clone myself several times to get any use out of 'em when they're done. Can anybody relate? I thought so. Which brings me to the point at hand: bracket racing. I live within a few miles of a great little 1/8-mile track, but had never been there in the 15 years or so I've lived here. Why? Well, that's a whole 'nuther story... So, after attending the Annual Nostalgia Drags at Yello Belly Drag Strip in Arlington, Texas, a couple weeks ago, I kinda got the bug to give it a try. I'd not made a p*** down a drag strip since I got out of college, but as I discovered, it's kinda like *** and riding a bicycle...once you learn, you never forget how. To make a very long story short, I took my daily driver El Camino to the Wednesday night "test and tune" session at the local track to get an index and to re-learn the tree...just for grins 'cause I've got no plans to do it for a living. I had a great time and found that the little 'Camino, though gawdawful slow, was pretty consistent and really seemed to like the action. So... On Saturday night I shows up for the semi-weekly Brackets, pays my $15 and gets a number - 083. Three hours later I goes to the tower and collects my $15 back...for being runner-up in the Street Eliminator cl***. Well... Today I wakes up and thinks to myself, maybe I'd enjoy the Vicky even more if I do a few little changes to the running gear with the idea of using 'er in the brackets? Not the fast brackets, where you'se gots to have slicks, a helmet and a roll bar, but in the sloooooooow brackets where all's you'se gots to have is stone-reliable consistency...and $15 bucks. too many cars or projects to ever get done in your or my lifetime, who would ever do that? lol guilty. and on the racing thing i used to do that some when i was a teen, many moon ago. now i just go to the ratrod drags here and enjoy the show. they have them at 2 diffrent strips here and there is actualy good racing. me and a couple of buddys drive our cars out and just show. were fraid we would break ours and half to be hauled home. i get enjoyment outa that. but there are alota guy that do drag there old rods. a few will realy surprise you.
Well I also have to many cars that I am not suppose to have next to my garage where I live but have OK neighbors ! Anyway I will run my 55 Fairlane when it's done just to do it ! I am planing on building a cheap SBF g***er from my 49 or 50 Shoebox Ford . I haven't totally figured which one I will build but one of them is going to be a slow race car . It will be to just have some fun and that's what it's all about anyway . I will be using a 4 speed trans since I have a Mr. Gasket V gate shifter that I use to love ! For those who don't know what they are , well you put 2 finger in the rod on the shifter with your hand on the Hurst style shift knob , then pull the 2 finger shifter up then push the shifter forward into first gear . Then you just wrap the hand around the shifter handle and you are ready to go ! the 4 speed works in a straight line and all you do if shift back in forth in a straight line in a in-line pattern . No H pattern shift to do so you don't miss a shift . They were really a lot of fun back in the day and was the shifter to have if you didn't have a Hurst Compe***ion Plus shifter with the small shifter handle ! Those were the 2 best shifters to have if you drag raced . Anyway I want to have some more fun before I go ! I have a complete old F100 front end but need to buy some springs . I have a 302 to build , cam , intake , carb , headers , wiring harness , rear and a pair of low back seats to use ! Now all I have to do is find a 4 steed trans and build the car . The only other thing I really would like is if I can come across a good Fe 390 to rebuild . If not the 302 will work fine and just might rework the block and buy a stroker kit for it to make a 347 . Anyway you look at it , that just a whole lot of fun ! Will keep everyone posted when I start to build the car ! Jim
I like drag racing from way back ever since I was in High School and drove up to U.S. 30 Drag Strip in Gary,IN and even saw the first Green Monster Jet blow down the old timing stand it was the last year of the flagman there.I spent a lot of years in aftermarket sales and managed two Speed Shops so it's in my blood,wish I had the bucks to get back in it but haven't hit the lottery yet.I even have the "Rigor Mortis" '53 Ford as my screensaver,check the web for pictures of it in action.I would like to go back to California and check out "Back to Kingdon" in Lodi,Ca where I worked and lived it's a good Nostalgia event.We have two Nostalgia events here in Phoenix put on by HAMB members which was a lot of fun.Another event I was lucky to attend was the last race at Fremont,it's sad that some of these tracks are now gone and the land sits there empty,I am sure some of you have seen the "Lost Drag Strip" threads posted.

Drag racing is always a good time. I get aways gitty every time I make a p***. I say if you want the vicky to be a part time bracket car go for it.Just a little warning racing is addictive.
Dont post much but a while back talke about 55 two door with stock 502 Cad in it3 weeks a go went 11.50s on 9inch tires lock 9inch with 3.9 gears fun car will run faster with soom tuneing
We are still waiting for the rain to clear up around here to get our Opener in at Woodburn Drag Strip. It's a great 1/4 mile and 1/8 for inter club racing (so we don't break our cars). During the Pro/Sportsman/Big event racing they set aside special parking for all the rods/customs/bikes for a show and shine. Fun for everyone. Usually a race every weekend. Can't wait for them to open.
