Well, the dash is almost done, just need to start re***embling everything. .. Since I have NO wiring at all in the car, I'm wondering if the electrical components for a 56 will fit into the dash of my 54, that way I can go ahead and wire the car as a 12v system.??? BEFORE PHOTO AFTER PHOTO
it is cleared, 2 coats and wetsanded between coats. However I used an acrylic SATIN clear instead of glossy. Gave it a richer finish that you really can't see in the photo
You should be able to use a 12V '56 harness. All the switches and components look to be in the same places between dashes, You 'll have to update the switches, bulbs and lighter you know.
<Quote> 1954fordcoupe Hey just curious. How do you remove the knobs on the dash? Thanks Some have very small torque screws that you have to loosen to take them off, Some have a nut on the back side, and of course the headlight switch has a release ****on on the backside of the switch. Which knobs are you having an issue with? Thanks Streetdreams, I will take a good look at that, thanks for the info
Well I haven't got very serious yet but I did take a quick look at the knobs on the dash. Im actually going to check the wiring under the dash and thought it would be easier just to remove the dash all together to do this. My speedo seems to need repair so I was going to remove it also. Do all the knobs need to be removed in order to take out the dash? Any pointers would be greatly appreciated
I got to tell ya 1954fordcoupe , it was VERY difficult to take the dash off with all the stuff still connected. I was able to unbolt the dash and rotate it in place about 30 degrees, but that was it. I had to take everything apart to make it easier to access. Biggest tip, TAG EVERYTHING!!! every wire, every cable.. every nut and bolt.. I started by removing the vent and wiper cables as well as the steering wheel brace. From there, just take your time and be slow about it. If I can do it, you can...
Great color choice , and you are correct about taking the dash out complete, It can be done but it's a real "act" . .
