Kool idea in Ont you dont need to plate a tractor for driving they dont go very fast you know but you do need a slow moving sign on the back. Adamo Im in.Would this be a traditional rod a rat rod or what. I remember a few years ago knowing a guy who lost his license for drinking and he had a tractor that he built a full cap with heater and radio. It was powered by a straight 6 ford and a truck rear and a top end of about 60mph. You do see guys out in the country driveing them around.

"You do see guys out in the country driveing them around." I saw a neat high-speed tractor conversion tip in an ancient Popular Mechanics--this was for people who had no other powered vehicle, incidentally: Just make a trailer using a passenger car axle, and build a driveshaft to hook it directly to the tractor's power takeoff! Kinda a inboard/outboard drive vehicle!

You can't rule out the mighty Minneapolis Moline. From 1936 to 1949 I think, their grille resembled a mid 30's Chevy. The pic shown with a cab is their UDLX model, very rare.I think the grille with the built in headlights would look very mean on a track roadster,my grandpa had a Minne with that grille and it was a '59.

My son wants to drive our John Deere 2640 to high school the last day of classes for his senior year. All of this time I thought we were rednecks, now I see we are avant garde.

I know of several retired millwrights who rebuild tractors to pass the time now. Maybe it's time to blend our vision with there talent.

Got mine last week - going to be a narrow, single seater based on this little hood:

I'm going to have to cut out the side panels and get rid of the taper at the rear, but I think it'll make a cool little deco-style racer.

Yeah, I could cut it up but then how would I grade the road, plow the snow, move ground and lift really heavy stuff ? 1953 NAA "ol' Betsy" earns her oats !

Wow! *drool* I've never seen such a thing before. That's my new favorite tractor grille. Are you going to save the "David Bradley" logo and integrate it somewhere?

Reminds me of the Pennsy K4s that pulled the Broadway Limited.

Ahh, this explains why I've never seen one before, it's a garden tractor! Why can't we design things with this much class anymore?

Yeah - it measures about 18" high and 40" long - it'll be a small car. I couldn't NOT buy it though; like you say, it's just too cool. If there was as much attention paid to design now, I think the world would be a much better looking place to live, to be sure.

When I get this thing a little more "together" I'll post more info.

    I love it!

Is there any way you could cut it vertically right in front of the D and use the rear as part of a Boat tail?

If anybody's doing a tractor roadster, you've got to include a "split" brake pedal or better yet separate kick brakes on the rear. Before I could drive a real car my Dad taught me how to stand his Ferguson TO-30 up on it's York rake and run a "serpentine" across a field. using the hand throttle and kickers. Another of those wonderful "don't tell your Mother" moments. I'll bet she'd turn on a dime. Just don't lock your thumbs through the steering wheel spokes....ouch!

Metalshapes - that's exactly one of the ideas I'm playing with. I'll either use that sheetmetal at the rear, or split the top of the hood and add a wedge to get rid of the taper so I can match it up to a sprint/midget style cowl.

SwampYankee - I'm considering using a hand-operated cutting brake on it - there just isn't going to be room inside the bodywork for the split brake pedal.

    Gowjobs,

Howzabout putting separate pedals back by the seat frame? Or maybe one brake lever on each side, like a pair of the parking brakes on the old 'teens cars? That'd give you something to hang on to once you let go of the wheel.

I've looked every where and cant finde a hood or any thing. Anyone know?

  29. Go to a rural area, ask the farm implement dealer, or just look for a tractor junkyard. I grew up in southern Minnesota and they are often visible from the interstate.

Or take the easy way out and search around eVilbAy:

And click on the "hoods, fenders, and grilles" link.

Good luck! If you build anything please post it.

darrell hawley drove a john deer popper to high school at barnard, missouri, for a couple of years in the early 60's until he was 16 and could get a drivers' license. made sense to me at the time, but i couldn't scrape up enough scratch to buy one myself...
