I was thinkin it kinda looks like a Austin Healy, Austin Martin, MG, or a Jag. But i am sure i am wrong. 39
That is cool to see a Bocar picture. My grandfather has a couple of them. Their body lines are simply beautiful. What happened to Bonner's Bocar? Does he still run it?
Remember that many folks were making bodies in their home garage. There was the same wonderful spirit as here.''I CAN make my own car'' Fiberglass was a new thing. Simple compared to bumping metal. I've looked at too many unbuilt bodies over the years. Some still in their packing crate! It is sad how many ''body kits'' were sold so light and incomplete that you had to have so much money to get roadworthy not to mention time. Many people selling these were just making money offa guy's dreams Sometime I wonder just how many guys quit trying. It had to be far far more than those actually finished I think of the poor kid selling GRIT and saving his money to build a car
He has a 1959 XP-5 that he raced in RMVR (Rocky Mountain Vintage Racing) until this last year. It is a 283 / 4spd car. I was able to make a couple of easy laps with it - what a blast! Several other XP-5's are in his garage in various stages of completion. He also has a Bocar Stiletto (crank-mount 4:71). I'll try to get some XP-5 pictures scanned this weekend.
i read an article on the bocar a while back, those were some really hairy cars, i think that he even built a supercharged pikes peak hill climb coupe...
I think I may have talked to you or your Dad, at Bonneville once... Please put up those pics. Specially of the Potvin Blown Stiletto...
You probably spoke with my Grandpa and my uncle - I think they went to Bonneville to watch Bonner a few years back. I'll see what pictures I can gather up this weekend. There are some great pictures of a different Stiletto here including the Potvin blower: http://www.ktrmotorsports.com/projects_completed.html#porsche_daytona I think some XP-7's (looks like XP-5, but longer) had Potvin 4:71's also. A few of them ran the Pikes Peak Hillclimb.
I might have a chassis that would work with that. How about a '62 Triumph sedan/coupe. Motor and everything. Little bitty thing. Like this photo. Dan
Great link sutn. That GTV brought a tear to my eye, having owned many European sportscars from the 50's and 60's my '66 Giulia Sprint remains one of my fondest. Aluminum block, cylinder head, transmission, differential not to mention the body AND 4 wheel disc brakes. All in 1966 no less. Sweet car. Cheers.
Here is a picture of a Panther from 1962. It did say they used a Diamler 2.5 L motor and frame. It is hard to see from the picture but the turnsignals/running lights are in the same spot also. They had a 94 inch wheel base. Joe
going for some funny today...why not get really funny and put in a SAAB 93 monte carlo motor (3 cylinder, 2 stroke, 3 carbs...and all asthmatic)
Saab has no engine braking. AND if you back off no bottom end lube To drive a Saab Special you had to have BALLS! But if you spin a Tatra backwards and don't get the clutch in quick you bend every valve......only has one long t-chain and one way tensioners!!!!!
i found a early 60's SAAB 93B Monte Carlo Edition with all the cool goodies...nardi wheel, halda speed pilot, bucket seats, in some shed, out in Alpine...man i wanted that so bad.
Another company that is [alledgedly] out of bussiness now is the Oneida Glass Works[Oneida Tenn]. They made my 59 Vette body. It is the basis of next years Hamb Drags car- It is a real heavy body, weighs in at[260#],but it also wasnt a very exact body, needing a lot of repair to look decent. Most all of The older fiberglass bodies were made by several different co's and [most] are out of bussiness in reality- They are not an easy build, steel is easier!
Bob.. Can you send me a picture of the car? They no longer display and I'd like to see if I can help. My e-mail is geoffrey@grhacker.com Thanks! Geoff
Or could you just re post it?? Id like to see and I know a freak for obscure 50s & 60s cars that may be able to help.
Kind of off-topic, but does anybody know of a modern glassfibre body that is about the right size to go on a Ford Escort chassis? Maybe something designed for the VW bug? Just curious. -Dave
