Probably a bad ***le but, will the stock rear end handle the SBC? Its a '53 Mainline I6 3spd manual car. I want a 9" outa Maverick...but till I can afford / find one, wanted to know if the stock rear end can handle it. I'm not planning to go to the local drag strip with it, just to fool around in till I can get the 9". Also is the Maverick rear end a good choice -width wise-clearance issues?

They are actually pretty tough,in the late 60's I ran several Fords on steep 1/4 mile dirt tracks and never broke one.A lot of guys ran them with stout Y-blocks and they hang in there, running an automatic trans puts a little less strain on a drivetrain and SBC's are not known for making torque as much as they do RPM's unless you put some serious money into them.

Thats what I thought. It looked to be a pretty stout rear end. I think I'll stick with it as long as possible or till I blow it up. LOL

    Thanks Again,

Another question what gear ratio is in this rear end... some one told me it has 390's.

6 cyl's with Overdrive were 4:10's without Overdrive like yours were 3:90's either way with an AOD it will cruise just great.
