i have been talking to jeff about a radiator for my car. i want to see who has installed an aluminum radiator in their 54. pictures would be nice, and info where you got it and how much you paid. Jeff reffered me a seller on ebay that sells them for the mustang application. im almost ready to pull the trigger. just want to see who else has used an early mustang radiator in their ride. thanks guys!

They look racy. Often, a stock cooper/br*** radiator works better, if its in good shape.

I have one. It's a $400 Griffin that fits a 55-57 Chevy, so I had to make a couple of brackets but it wasn't too hard. Although, I bought it before I found this forum so I didn't know Mustang radiators fit, and at that time no one on ebay made radiators that fit our cars directly, either. So I guess what I'm saying is I like the aluminum but you shouldn't do it my way. :D

Here's an old picture of my setup. I'm currently redoing the radiator mount - now the whole thing sits in line with the core support. I have enough clearance between the radiator and water pump to run the electric fan as a puller rather than a pusher as shown.

@screenz i would love to have that in my car. but i need the ports to be on the p***enger side since i changed water pumps to the short.

i know that alum radiators look racy, but i would paint the top tank so it would help hide the alum a little bit. i just dont want to worry about cooling issues. its the thing i hate the most with old cars. i hate having to watch the temp gauge more than the road haha!

Damn!!! someone mentioned to me to run a hose across like you probably have. I really didnt want to do that, especially with my old radiator. i have replaced pretty much everything but the pistons when it comes to my motor. so i didnt want to skimp and use an old radiator.

I've got a cheap one from summit, and its okay. I'd much rather have a copper br*** one for the look, but it cools pretty well.

If you want quality parts, check with Portell Radiator, in DeSoto MO. He made one for my flathed and it was always cool.

I will have to look around again, I had information saved on my laptop of a company that makes a 3 & 4 core direct replacement that would handle my 351w. Unfortunetly my laptop recently p***ed away to that great supercenter in the sky and all my info was lost. I'll try to find it again and let you know.

The reason I recommended this radiator from Oscars to Baggs is this is a family owned business here in Phoenix that has been here for many years and also one of my old customers when I serviced their uniforms and shop towels before I retired, real nice people. Here is a link to the radiator Baggs ordered the "price is nice" same unit listed in Speedways catalog you can add $100 plus shipping.http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/1965...ptZMotorsQ5fCarQ5fTruckQ5fPartsQ5fAccessories No epoxy in this unit if you are running the late "long" pump you can get it with a drivers side lower hose inlet.

Your thread motivated me to go work on the car today. Here's a pic of the updated radiator situation. I'd still rather have gone with something that required less fabrication to work, but I think mine turned out pretty good.

could you tell me if you plan on mounting the fan on the grill side or engine side of the rad. Did you change your pump, pulleys and brackets to the Ford racing pump allowing for required additional clearance.

I went with champion Radiator for the new 40 coupe. 159 delivered and its good quality. They have a warranty and seem pretty good to deal with.

I mounted the fan on the engine side, I bought the engine from Fordsbyjay he could tell you if its the original water pump or the short type .It has the original pullys, with a short pump I believe. with it installed I still have about 1-1/2" between the fan and the fan pulley. The only thing that is close is the Battery tray is real close to the Alternator I may end up putting the battery in the trunk not sure yet on that.

thanks, we turned the battery 90 degrees. Drilled out the spot welds securing the brackets on a Group 29 tray. Welded the brackets on a smaller tray, with the battery facing the opposite direction. Bolted it in, eliminating alternator problem

Just an update, i did order and recieve the radiator that jeff mentioned to me from Oscars. i dont have any photos yet. but i held the radiator up to the original "u" piece that holds the radiator, and i swear this thing is going to fit with not modification. the width is perfect and the holes even line up in the right spot!!!!! when i finally mount it in the car i will take lots of photos. i believe the application i used was for a 67 mustang with a 289

here is ****py photo of the radiator. i will take some more next time im there of the detail how it mounted up. couldnt ask for a better part. question for all of you too. would you paint the top tank black to mask that its aluminum? i cant decide if i want to do that, or leave it. i kind of like it the way it is.
