Hey everyone..... I had a great day today.... I may have located my high school car that I ran in all three years of high school.... A 39 Ford sedan. It is almost exactly a copy of the car I had and I sold it in June of 1970 in a grocery store parking lot. It has been parked for many years.... In Colorado! The more I got into this car, the more familar it has become. Bob... a buddy of mine found it and brought it back to Eugene and I've been wanting another sedan So..... We struck a deal for it..... He wanted my '53, so we did a straight swap. Bob got my '53 and I got his '39. So..... With the '53..... I have some hard to find parts that didn't go with it. New; top tinted windshield, front and rear rubber for stainless trim inserts, stainless winshield trim, inside windshield moulding trim, a stock un-cut dash with glovebox door (no gauges). I want to let you all have first chance at this stuff before I let it go to finance this new project.
You are a damn lucky man to have found you high school car the same way you left it 41 years ago ! Got any pictures of it yet ? Jim
I'll get some on here by tomorrow.... The mice had a field day inside it, made a great home for many generations! It had an early 327 mounted to the stock 39 ****** with an adapter turning the stock rear.... have to be easy on it or you'd break the ******... My highschool car went through about a half dozen or so when I had it! I have so many memories with that car, so many romances !!!! (big back seat and all). Im axious to get this back on the road with a new independant front end and a 8 or 9 inch rear on parallel springs. Not too sure if I will keep the early 327 in it, maybe replace it with a crate engine and overdrive transmission for reliability.
That is amazing!! I often think about my 1st car and sitting in front of the ginormis wheel of 47 Ford Sedan at 15 years of age. My Dad bought it for me a few months before I turned 16 so we could work on it before I could actualy drive it. Hell, l think I just deposited a drip or two on my keyboard ...... It seems the older we get, the more fondly we remember the early days. Good luck reliving the glory days with the old 39
Wow Geno, that is absolutely fantastic! What a great story. I hope you don't have any plans on leaving us even though you don't have the Ford anymore. I have been helping a buddy and his brother try to locate his father's '66 Impala that he bought new when he returned from Vietnam. He sold it in '78 I believe. He left me a message before he left for the HAMB Drags saying that they have a lead on it. Hopefully they will have the same great ending to their story that you have. Congrats!
holy cow. that's an awesome story. will you update the trans so that you don't have to be so easy on it this time around?
Thanks guys..... We are a family here no matter what we own. I put a ton of miles on that '53 and my friend Bob that traded me will have a great time in it too. It drives great! He decided to help me out on the '39 and I got the car gutted today in about 5 hours. Ready to lift the body off the frame tomorrow, power wash the ch***is, remove the drivetrain, wash, clean, grind, and get ready to install the independant front and 8 or 9 inch rear on parallel leafs and then paint the whole thing. I plan on reinstalling the body next weekend and start the reconstruct if all the parts show up on time. I'm planning to paint this car up just like I had it in High School. Tearing this car apart today was a blast and brought back so many memories..... Like why I did the things to cars like that a long ago.... what was I thinking? Just learning what to do back then. ****.... I'm having fun building again! Anyone want to come and play too? I get bored with completed cars.
