I fired it up tonight. Really went very well. I just plugged in every wire I could find and turned the key. Best start up I have ever had on a project like this. It even moved a little when I grabbed the shifter cable instead of the throttle cable. Going to work on the steering, brakes, and routing cables and wiring inside the cab tomorrow night. I did get the bed floor and one bed side made last weekend but I did not take any pictures yet.

Worked on running boards over at Steffon's shop this weekend. Thanks for all your help and you have a great shop. Finished up fab work the rest on one bed side and figured the mounting of the running board. Posted a couple new pics on my webshots. Not for the faint of heart if you love the 58-59 fleetside beds. I hacked one all up for my bed. Now to duplicate the same for the other bed side.....

  4. That box is going to be awesome.
Love how the spears work with the fender line.
It will suit this truck perfect.

She has steering now.... moved it around in the driveway. The camper made it home last night so I mounted the hitch and moved the trailer around with it. Might have a bed and front clip in primer for our first camping trip but it will be ready enough to go.

Got the front clip painted. It will be one this weekend. Put plates and insurance on it now. Have to finish up wiring and finish some of the interior. I have a week until our first trip with the camper. I will have a make shift bed on it for the first trip. Tuesday night my brother and I are bending up some exhaust pipe and throwing an inspection sticker on it. hopefully the running boards make it on there or I will have to bring a step ladder for the wife and kids. Bed is not even close to being done. Check out my webshots, I posted some more pics.

What did you register it as? Did you have to have commercial plates?
I am so glad that I told you in the beginning that you were welcome in this group. You are an inspiration to us all.

I registered as a 1957 truck and lowered the weight down to 11,000 GVWR. Since it is registered to a private individual not a company it is just considered a pleasure vehicle. Pennsylvania does not have plates that have commercial on it, they all just say truck. My insurance has it a a recreational use vehicle. I am also glad I was able to get in with this group. There are a lot of great people here.

I have a few more things to complete before it will be road worthy. Should ****on those up tonight. It will get us camping for next weekend. Hopefully in a couple more weeks it will be complete. Here is a cell phone picture I took last night before it got dark.

Big Bertha is on the road..... Finished enough last night to get her functional. Drove it to work today and will be headed over to my brothers after work to bend up some exhaust and get a safety inspection sticker on it.

That is way cool. Of course, you won't get much camping done with all of the people admiring your truck.

Took the camper out for a test ride last night. It pulls nice but I am not going to win any drag races. It can keep up with highway traffic no problem so it will be fine.

This is just the nicest 5th wheel toter ever. Did you ever tell us what the horse power that diesel is? I asume its an automatic trans?

I agree with low rider that you will be beating the lookie loos with a stick all during your camping trip.

Its not a diesel........just a small block chevy 350 for now. I am not a big fan of diesels. My brother said that I would be a fan by the end of the summer. Who knows. The wife will yell at me less if I am not going 80 mph with the camper. I got in trouble last year on the way back form camping and the wife noticed we were doing about 85 mph. That was with her Suburban and a 13' scotty.

Truck worked great this weekend. No problem at all other than the attention it gets. when we pulled into the campground it was like it was a movie star. People snapping pictures and taking video. Then the whole weekend people would stop by and take pictures. I never thought it would get that much attention. Yogi and bobo even had to get a picture

Well Buggy, I gotta tell ya. I never was a big fan of that body style, but you have knocked me off my wagon. Your truck is a work of art. Followed the build from the start. Congrats on an awesome looking truck! :D

b-bop I have to agree with you I never thought of these trucks as cabovers. I would stop mine in a heart beat if I came acrost one of these for the right price and do it instead of what I have.

Buggy is a man with special talents. This truck came together so fast I wonder when he sleeps.

Thanks guys....I wanted this body style for 2 reasons. First because I am into the 55-59 chevy trucks and second because there are not many out there. I have only seen one other one in person and it was just the body. I can't wait to get the bed abnd running boards done but have slowed down now that sumer is her and my boys baseball. Hope to have the running bards done this weekend.

Finished the running board and shot some paint on them last night. Got up a 4:30 this morning and flipped them over and painted the back sides. Wanted to get them on the truck tonight since we are going camping this weekend and though it would be nice if the wife and kids could get in with out ***istance.

Hardest part of making the running boards was the fender extension. I'll get some pics of them on tonight. They really make the truck look more finished......now back to working on the bed. Seems like I have slowed down since it is at a functional stage or maybe its my son's baseball team making the playoffs and I am at games 3 days a week.
