i dont have access to a vise to hold the master cylinder to bench bleed it properly. could i leave it in the car, depress the piston in the car with something other than the brake pedal? or can i use the brake pedal and bleed out the master with that?
Could you improvise a vice with some c-clamps and angle iron? sandwich the MC between 2 pieces of angle iron with 2 c-clamps. Secure the whole thing to a table with 2 more c-clamps? Maybe?
you can mount it on the car and use the pedal. its just harder to see when the air is gone. no vise??????? humm. c clamp it to something solid
Well I'm working on it at a buddies place and he doesnt't have a vice. I will have help to watch for bubbles so I'm not worried about watching for them. I guess worst case scenario would be to pull it off and bleed it somewhere else.
Ok this is what I use to do . When I was replacing the MC , I would set the MC on the work bench and open the bleeders and fill the MC with brake fluid and leave the top off . By the time I removed the old MC the new MC would be dripping brake fluid out the bleeders and line fitting . That is how you drip bleed a MC . Then close the bleeders and top off with brake fluid and put the top on the MC then mount the MC . Hook up the brake lines and then bleed the brake lines . It works every time for me ! Jim
