It's been a long time so I figured I would say hi to everyone and let you all know that I'm still alive and (somewhat) enjoying my 53 Club Coupe. I've been trying to get back to normal (I live in the area of Pennsylvania that was recently devastated by major flooding) and enjoy my car before winter. Unfortunately, I'm back to having some ignition problems after switching to a new distributor. This time I seem to be burning up points and condensers at a much faster rate than I should....like every 300-400 miles. I am hoping to find another distributor to put the pertronix kit back in to see if that helps. The original distributor has way too much play in the shaft, so I either need to rebush that one or find another one that came out of a good running car. I'm driving from Northeastern, PA to Cleveland in 2 weeks so I want to make sure that the car is 100%.

So, if anyone has a distributor for a 215/223 laying around that they know worked well, I would be more than happy to take it off your hands.

    Thanks.

Nailhead65 , I hope you made out OK with the flooding . My wife still has fun getting to work in York because of all the closed roads due to flooding . We live in Abbottstown . I hope your Home and Car were safe !
Burning up points that fast doesn't sound good at all . Is the distributor that bad or are you using a big volt coil ? Have you just considered rebuilding the distributor yourself ? They really aren't that hard to rebuild at all . Have you tried the better Ford suppliers for parts for the distributor or a new rebuild one . Have you tried the local parts stores to see if they can get you one yet ?

Hey Jim. Thanks for the concern. We survived the flood. My shop is on very high ground so the cars were safe. My grandparents were the only ones that took water. Eight feet of water in a ba*****t of a 130 year old house isn't fun. We got it all cleaned out and ade waiting for the inspection to turn the power back on.

Onto the car. An old timer that has a shop is going to help me rebuild both of my distributors. That's one of my problems. The other problem is that my car is pulling vacuum at idle and screwing up the timing. I need to figure out what's going on there. I have all of Clifford's stuff in/on my engine. It's really built up. I'm running a weber 38 dgas carb with an adapter plate as per the suggestion of Larry at Clifford. I have a sneaky su****ion the adapter plate is causing my issue. I'm going to see what he thinks. I'll keep you posted.

First off , I am glad to hear you and your business made out OK . Sorry to hear about all the water in such a old home ! I am glad you did get it pumped out and didn't cause any problems . It ****s not having electric all this time ! On the carb , I would double check the gaskets and make sure the adapter plate is also flat . Clifford does know his stuff so I wouldn't think he would steer you wrong on anything .
BTW , Are you coming to the HAMB Drags in a couple weeks ? Would like to see your set up sometime .

Talk to GMC BUBBA. He may be able to save your distributor.

Jim....unfortunately our Cleveland chapter (of the rumblers) is having their first annual show that day so I won't be able to make the drags this year. I'm a little nervous about this trip all the way to Cleveland in my 53.

Dabirdguy: the original distributor was rebuilt by gmcbubba and I had a ton of issues with it. I'm going to have my buddy check that one out and if there is an issue with it I will address that with him.
