i want to get a set of chrome steelies and radial wide whites for my 53. i know the wheels need to be 15x6 but what tire size should i be looking for. i have coker bias ply now but im pretty sick of them and want to go radial when i get the chrome steelies.

I went from Radials to Bias Plys on my 54 and I like the Bias plys better... most radial WWs that are sold aren't especially great tires, OR the ones that are actually good tires (Goodyears) are outrageously expensive.

The original size equates to a 175-98R15, about the closest radial would be a 205-75R15 or a 215-75R15, but the 215s look really wide on these cars.

I'm selling the steelies off my car for $200 if you'd be interested. Check my pics to get a look.

I have 205/75-15 Coker radials on 7 inch wheels with 3 1/2 back space on my 54 Ford. Car is lowered 3 inches. No rubbing problems even with skirts on.

fxcomet made a post on the "wheel/tire size" thread that answers your question, DIESELCHUCK. He just went to 17's and shows the sizes he used. Pix are on his profile. Looks purty good in my opinion - and I'm not a mag wheel guy at all!
