i want to get a set of chrome steelies and radial wide whites for my 53. i know the wheels need to be 15x6 but what tire size should i be looking for. i have coker bias ply now but im pretty sick of them and want to go radial when i get the chrome steelies.
I went from Radials to Bias Plys on my 54 and I like the Bias plys better... most radial WWs that are sold aren't especially great tires, OR the ones that are actually good tires (Goodyears) are outrageously expensive. The original size equates to a 175-98R15, about the closest radial would be a 205-75R15 or a 215-75R15, but the 215s look really wide on these cars.
well where i live its pretty country and most of the roads havent been paved in 15 years so the bias plys wabble me all over the road so id like to try radials.
I have 205/75-15 Coker radials on 7 inch wheels with 3 1/2 back space on my 54 Ford. Car is lowered 3 inches. No rubbing problems even with skirts on.
yea i have 215/75 r15s and i have a slight tire rub in the rear so id say 205/75 r 15 or even 195/75r15
here is what my 215/75r15s look like from the rear just so you can see. Im going to get 205's when i get my next set of tires for these rims.
i found a set of coker 205/60r15 on their website, wouldnt that lower my car a bit. they are still a 2 inch wide whitewall.

fxcomet made a post on the "wheel/tire size" thread that answers your question, DIESELCHUCK. He just went to 17's and shows the sizes he used. Pix are on his profile. Looks purty good in my opinion - and I'm not a mag wheel guy at all!
