I am trying to get the vent windows out of my 54 hardtop doors for rechroming. There is what is called an adjustment nut that adjusts the vent window in or out I have checked out the shop manual and I can't seem to find anything about how it is removed so I can get the vent window frame out of the door. I finally took a die grinder to the left side and ground out the nut so that I can get the frame out of the door, But there has to be a better way without grinding off the bolt head. Now I have to replace the adustment nut ***embly. Does anybody know how to get the vent window out and where to find another adjuster?? I checked with Dennis Carpenter but no luck. I'll wait for a reply before doing the right side. Thanks for any help.

did you take out the roll down window? are the door panels off? there should be some nuts on the inner door panel. you should be able to undo those and then at an take it out.

I have the door gl*** out now, The door is off the car and everything is loose but the vent window has an adjustment nut that when turned allows for in/out adjustment of the vent window frame. When it is loose you can then move the frame enough to get the door gl*** out of the door, The problem is getting the adjustment nut out so you can remove the vent window frame so I can get it rechromed. I used a die grinder on the nut to get it off. Then removed the vent window frame. I now have the right side door to do the same to. But there must be a better way to remove the adusting nut so you don't destroy it. (This is a 54 monterey 2 door hdtp) So I want to find out the trick to removing them. I now need to find a replacement nut adjuster. So maybe someone knows where to find them.

Did you remove the two phillips screws at the top of the door above the vent window? The vent window and front door gl*** run should come out as a unit, there is one retaining bolt at the bottom of the door gl*** run so with the window removed you can pull the unit out the top of the door.

Everything has been removed except the big adjusting (7/8 size socket)nut that goes thru the vent window frame and without that big nut undone and removed the vent window frame does not come out of the door. The only way to get it out was to grind off the big nut. The roll up window is easy to remove. It is the vent window frame that is the problem. Thanks for the ideas but still trying to figure it out.
