Well, here we go again huh :D

I have a real good feeling this time, and I can see my car easily now. I dropped it off on wednesday, and I already visited this weekend. I wont bore with all the specifics, but thought I would have another thread to show the progress.

At this point, all that is done so far is head shaking at the **** the previous jack @ss did, and the front and rear windshield have been pulled. I approved this since he has a licensed/insured gl*** guy (included in his quote) to remove and reinstall, so if anything happens, they cover it.

Now the cool part so far. There was a guy there who has his 57 Ford truck there. The body shop owner told me, you need to get to know this guy. We all BS'ed a while, and the truck owner asked if I planned to get a new windshield. I said yea, probably so. He said a good friend of mine owns a gl*** shop, I can help you out, cheap. Great. So he did actually call his friend, and the guy told me yesterday he is getting me a new windshield for $130.

I talked to this guy a while, one of his best friends is George Poteet, some of you may know who he is, if not google it :). Thats happens to be were he got a STEAL on that 57 ford truck. Anyway, point being, its pretty obvious already this guy has a lot of great connections, and I hope to get to know him better.

Here are a few update pics I took this weekend. The driver side has been sanded down to metal and loads of bondo removed. He has worked the metal and primered some of it, and using metal glaze where needed.

    Looking good!

Are you still going with that orange-y color? Keeping those wheels? Might look good with body color steel wheels and caps on it...

Matt, I am not sure on the color, but I have to decide this week. I do like that burtn orangy color though. He think I should paint it bahama blue, thats what he likes. I dont know, I am open for pics and/or ideas on the color. My wife likes that light blue color, my dad always thought burgundy would look good. I know it ultimately is my decision, but I cant decide now.

The wheels will be changed at some point, those are wheels I had on it from high school ('94). I plan on american racing torque thrust 2's when i can afford them.

I remember looking at different colors for his '56 with Ron. Had pics of '56 Fords all over the shop in different colors and schemes. Finally settled on pea**** blue/colonial white. Bahama blue was in the running. Your car is looking like it's in good hands.

chrysler had a color on their 300's in about 06 called magnesium. a cross between a green and a grey that i thought would look good on an old car.

Early 60's Fords had a color called Viking Blue Metallic, chrome really stands out with it,here is an example of a Falcon with it and the various paint codes.Body work looks outstanding, you made a good move.

I don't like Corvettes at all but that color is slick. Actually, I don't think that you could go wrong with any of the colors you have picked. Can't wait to see it in paint.

I really like the jeep color, and really like the vette color also. With a white top, look out. My car has been dark blue for 15 years, although bahama is lighter, and I am kinda over blue. I like the atomic orange on the vette to (no I am not a vette fan, they just happen to have colors I like :) )

Just keep in mind that your car will be a driver, that means stone chips, etc. to touch up. Most of these 2 and 3 step factory paints are a royal P.I.T.A. to touch up or spot in. A non-metallic any color in basecoat / clearcoat would be my suggestion.

Go ManGo! is a nice color of orange. It was on 06 Charger Daytonas and probably other stuff. Of course, I am biased since I have one that color...but it's nice...:D

I do agree John, I want to avoid a midcoat or a candy for that reason. I dont know how to tell which are three stage or not, I guess I need to call a paint store with codes to find out. I had metallic in my old paint, prefer not to have that also, just because of trying to touch it up before was a pain. Is pearl a problem to have?

Charger go mango looks good to

    Todd,

In my opinion, some of the newer colors with metallics and pearls look great on new cars, but look off somehow on an older car for some reason. I would be very tempted to do one in that Z-06 bronze though, that car looks amazing. Would definitely have to be with a white (or slightly off-white) top and maybe even with Mainline side trim...

Good luck deciding, I built a Cobra replica, and I knew I wanted it blue, and still took a couple of weeks to decide which blue...

But, still a fun part of the project!!

Metallics, pearls, candies, flip-flops, 2 and 3 stages all will require a skilled painter to repair and match. A single stage or solid color basecoat/clearcoat is easiest to repair.

Ok. I went to the local paint place today, all of these oranges I posted are 2 stage, base clear. Granted some have metallics and/or pearls, but are at least not 3 stage.

Well then, what the hell, enjoy the car. Have it painted in a 2 step color you like. If you need a chip or scratch taken care of in the future, worry about it then. Lifes to short.

Personally I am partial to the early 60's Ford blue's . I just like the old skool colors better than the new ones . There is just way too much clear coat on these paint jobs today . It give that plastic look over paint . It's just my opinion but I still like a good paint job that has been buffed out and waxed .
