So with the valve covers off and the motor running I see oil pumping out of what looks like the top of the pushrods on the left side of the motor only,Nothing whatsoever on the right side. I'm not sure what its called but its also coming out the front of the tube the rockers are connected too, also only on the left side. I need help, this cannot be good to be driving this with no oil getting up to the right side of the motor, what do I do? Thank you everyone

Oil is supplied up one of the bolts that hold the rocker shaft in place. If you remove the shaft, maybe compressed air will open the supply shaft up. Ole Don knows more about this.

Rocker shaft could be plugged too. While you have the rocker ***embly off, pull the plug from the ends of the shaft and clean the inside good. Take one of the old plugs to the parts store to match it to the right size. Any good parts store should have plugs to go back in the shaft.

There is a qurter inch hole from the center cam bearing up to the head surface, then a cast in slot about two inches across the head surface, then another quarter inch hole up the head, then one of the aluminum rocker stands has a hole that lines up with a hole in the rocker shaft, then each rocker has a hole in the shaft to oil each rocker, then each rocker has a hole to squirt at the pushrod end and splash back to the top of the valve. The quality of the oil from the fifties would cause any of these holes to clog with sludge. You can try to clean from the top, but its hard to get it all. You can install an aftermarket top oil kit, that may get you by for a while. When I see a motor in that shape, I overhaul it to make it right, and use modern motor oil. Not cheap, but you only have to do it once. If you get plenty of oil to the top, I will give you instructions on how to make it all last longer.

I took off rocker ***embly and cleaned the heck out of everything, every little hole I could find, let her soak n scrubbed n cleaned more. Put it back on,reset all the valves, some were way off from PO and just flicked the key n started right up....finally Oil to the to right side of the rockers!!!! It would've been nice to take off each rocker and clean the groove and little holes, but beggars can't be choosers,at least I have oil!!! She purrs like a kitten now,and the pick up is awesome compared to a week ago, she's not slow anymore!!! Thanks guys

Nite owl,are those caps supposed to be tight? Oil leaks through them on mine and they were so loose they just fell out when I took the pin out. So Ole Don any tips or tricks would be very helpful,I will be doing the rear main soon. Also any tips or tricks to get more HP or low end kick would be very appreciated. I really want dual exhaust,I hear they sound just awesome, maybe I could make a set that are just like the manifolds that are on it stock? I don't see it being to hard, making or finding the plate to bolt to the heads would be the hardest, just a thought. Still not sure which manifold would just bolt up,I had a thread but I can't find it anymore

Hey, you have oil on top! That is great news. Now, restrict but dont stop the oil out the tube on the right side of each shaft. I like to tap the tube and put in a drilled screw. If you dont want to take it apart again, try this. Stick a 5/64 drill bit in the hole in the overflow tube and pinch off the end with a vice grip. Remove the bit. The result should send more oil to the right side of each shaft so all the rockers get the same amount of oil. Dont completly close off the overflows. The left side oils the distributor gear, the right side oils the timming chain, so they need to squirt a bit out. The diameter isnt that important, less than 1/8. jamb a rag in the oil drain back hole just in case the bit gets away from you., the slippery little devils. If you still have a 239 engine, it will not set the world on fire. Step up to a 292 or 312. If you like the auto trans, they can be converted at overhaul time to a full three speed. I like three pedals and a five speed.
