Has anyone used Gearheads Cruiser Products power steering gearbox set up in a 55 or 56? If so, did you use the 3 speed auto. column they sell? Their site states this column is the same design as the stock column.
Not sure what Gearheads steering box your talking about but, here is another option. Borgesen make a direct replacement unit with Pitman arm that fits 52 to 64 Fords. borgeson.com to check it out.
I just looked at Gearheads Cruisers website and Borgeson may be the same unit and it could save you some cash. Borgeson is a steering parts Manufacturing Company.
You need to shorten your column to fit the Borgeson unit. With a little fabricating skill you can still use your existing column, but it will take some innovation to get the shift working. Regards
If I'm not mistaken Gearhead products was selling a modified 605 GM Box, most of the aftermarket has gotten away from selling these modified boxes because they are troublesome.
Hi Lasbde! I hav used the borgeson steering box and shorten the existing column.Look at the pictures!
Just outta curiosity, I wonder how this borgeson unit would work (better or worse) if switching to an ididit column? I have toyed with putting one in.
Thanks vicky, the picts are great. What year Torino did you use for the brakes? I am toying with the idea to use an ididit column also. I would like to have Low, Drive 1 and Drive 2 on the gear selector. Has anyone used an ididit column with the brogeson unit?
Maybe someone could shout out to ididit, or even borgeson. Both have been around for years working on things for these older cars, I bet someone knows. Actually borgeson sells columns on their website, only problem I see is none are tilt, which is what I would want. Worse case if we told them what our car is they could say what length column is needed of theirs, and we could possibly match that with a ididit length column. If I get a chance I will holler at them, but I am not close at all to making the swap.
