So I scored a driver side hood hinge off a 54 lincolin for my ford for the grand total of @10.99 at a local u pull it (took me 45 mins. to get off but I got it) luckily it is straight as a arrow (my p***enger side is good and the driver side is effed up) now to my question: how do you mount it since it was riveted on? weld a stud or what? thanks!
To the best of my knowledge, Lincolns are the same as the Fords and Mercs and are bolted on. Here is an illustration for a 1953 Lincoln from the appropriate Lincoln Ch***is Catalogue: http://www.oldcarmanualproject.com/manuals/54Lincoln/Ch***is/CChasLinc4954-PartB/LincolnChasB_0139.htm The arms bend over time after the pivots go. It is very difficult to check the pivots with the hinge installed. If the springs are in place the tension will mask play in the pivots. I suggest you remove the springs and check the pivots, even if the arms are not bent, before you install the hinge.
This weekend i got to work on the 54 and the hinge is rivited to the fender well any ideas on how to mount it? The new hinge is good and straight and I oiled the hell out of it and move freely (no springs on it yet.)
they seem to be the same, I will double check next weekend when I get to work on the car, I didn't even think of that.
