Pictures of the '50 Merc with '51 rear quarters. This is a photoshop copy of mine with new front fenders and one with way too much patina. Good luck with the project.

chopmerc.....the old eyesore...ya bastard! thats like when glassguy calls his merc his "shitbox" chopmercs moredoor was one of the best 4 door mercs around, and always will be.

stray kat is your car chopped already? if so i think you did what i was just talking about last week...the coolest chop on a 4 door merc is when you fashion the rear door window openings to look like 2 door quarter windows. makes the chop totally awesome...that seems to be a very cumbersome area for people to tackle.

Ha Ha Ha !! The ugliest Merc ever, well pretty hard to top anyway! My friend worked at The Guild for 4yrs or so and always refered to this piece of crap as " The Ghrost" .It shows what the most talented fabricaters with an unlimited budjet can do....but when you have No sense of style all the talent in the world wont help! Every rod or custom built by these guys is just plain wrong.Mike told me The Ghost had over 400 grand in it!

Sorry I missed the post. Here is a curent picture of the Merc. I've had alot of compliments on the chop. The extended rear door glass gives the sled the look of a two door. If your interested in looks, it is the way to go. The bad news you'll need to put in a swing out window, because that back window will not roll down. Before I get paint on her, I'm thinking about converting it to a hardtop.

OK Koolkemp, u opened the door so......

My original post (before I edited it...I have been drinking) said that has got to be one of the WORST Mercs ever done...worst I ever saw was a car called "Born Again" or something...it was a virgin 2 door chopped using a 70s Lincoln Mark roof...waves instead of flames and like square headlights or something...unbelievable. Kudos Koolkemp...that has to be one of the worst of all time!

The best one ever was done by Blackie Green from Master Welders Ltd. in Canada back in 57.

I miss this car, and it ain't even mine.

  15. My bodyman just got a 51 mor door. Said after he takes a torch to it, no one will know what it was any how. $2200 just to cut it up.

I have a 53 Monterey in my back yard, chopped the hell out of it for donor parts for my 30 coupe.

    May it rust in peace.

    the Ghrost, that's clever.

Anyway, from what I can see, the key to nailing the look on these Merc four doors is getting the shape of the back door window right. Would everyone agree with me there?

And remember, a four door becomes a two door pretty easily with the right doors and donor roof.

Wow,quite a few pics to look at.The rear door glass seems to be the focal point for getting the look just right.Straykat, you got any pics of the chop as it was done?I wanna keep the Merc as a mordoor cos I dont know of any in the uk.(I will now wait for a smartass to correct me..lol)

I was going through my file and if my memory is correct,
the Merchauler was a 4dr converted into a roadster. This
is going another direction but this is another one of my favorites.

The Barris built Merc... What can I say, "God Bless the Mercury."

    Happy Trails,

    Mick

What? I call them as I see them! The "business coupe" is an all new low. Sorry, but most (not all) of the examples shown are a mess. -stick
