Yesterday I notice my AC condensation was dripping on the ground, then I thought THIS CAR DOESN'T HAVE AC! So I just got a quote to recore the heater for my 56 Fairlane of $125. Does anyone know of a off the shelf core for a little less? Thanks.

i dunno, 125 doesnt sound too unreasonable compared to what others were saying. plus, you know it fits to begin with which makes that a check mark to the plus side of the checklist.

After a bit of reading and talking to friends, and since my radiator has been weeping too, I am gonna have both recored. Dutton Radiator told me that the cost of copper is making recoring a lot more pricey.
For this weekend though I will us some 3/4" tubing to byp*** the core.

new core 100. rebuilt old core 125. at least you know where the old one was made, and dont have to worry about off shore junk. provided of course your old one is rebuildable.

kinda like george washingtons hatchet. its original except for the ax head and handle ;)

Recoring is the way I think will go because I know it will fit. This weekend ZI removed the air vent and looked at the core and could not see any leakage. Drove it for for about eight hours and it did not see that seem leak. So I decided to let this sleeping dog lie. As for the radiator core leaking, a quart of coolant every month doesn't seem that bad. Or with summer coming up would I be better taking care of this? It will have to be done sooner or later I know.
