I searched with no results. Does anybody know the largest size wheel/tire combo that will fit on a stock '56 Ford Customline? Thank you in advance.

Depends totally on the offset of the wheels and how high the car is.

Here's a suggestion: Don't try to answer this question in the abstract.

Spend a day doing some homework. Take your springs out and block the car at the ride height it will sit at when it's finished.

Then mount and try several different wheel widths, offsets and tire sizes and see what fits.

Keep in mind that even though a wheel/tire combo may fit in the rear, getting it in and getting it out can be a daunting task - as many of our members have discovered...

    Good luck!

The tires on the rear of my 55 sedan are 225-70R15 on American six inch wheels with stock Ford backspace, I think its 3 1/4 The car has 3 inch lowering blocks. There is about one inch clearance on the outside and one and 1/4 inch on the inside. If a guy went much bigger, he would be really pushing his luck.

i got the same 225/70/15s on the back of my 55 on 7 inch ford police wheels. thinking about going to a 235/70/15 was gona try some 255s i have but i dont think they will fit. stock replacement springs no blocks. now no matter which wheels you run you have to put the frame on jack stands and let the rearend down to get the wheels in and out.

I'm running 17x8 with 245/40/17's (rear) Wheels have a 4.75" backspace. With the 17's, I had no problem with mounting with the car on a floor jack. The 17's give added room to wiggle the wheel over the drum. Fronts are 17x7 (4.5" BS) with 225/45/17.
