I've been building a box for my c.o.e. and rather keep hi-jacking the what did you do on your c.o.e. today thread, i'll show and tell here. I had some fenders that were repairable from a 47 ford 1/2 ton, so i beat them like they owed me money. i also added a 1 1/2 inch strip to the inside edge to get them the width i needed. the running boards were made from 4 old 2 ton boards. I had the sides made at a regular metal supplier out of 14ga sheetstock, i bought 2 sheets 4ft x 12ft at a cost of 264 bucks. i had them break a 1 in bend at the bottom and 32in up i had a 4in break the oposite direction at a 45. I put a 1in piece of conduit on the top to finish the rail.
So this box is 10ft 8in long with a inclosed engine compartment and a 91in x 4ft storage area. i built the inside of the box exactly 4ft so a regular piece of plywood would fit without a seam. this is the start of the tailgate build. to be continued
Looking good Pex, I built my own tailgate for my '52 pickup and used the same script. I attached it with a panel adhesive instead of welding. Worked great with no warping of that flat panel. Keep the pics coming! Link to my tailgate build on another forum.... http://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/1031964-d-i-y-tailgate-in-99-easy-steps.html
Looking good pex you are making me get the itch to get after it. Hey off topic but when you were at SAR and took that picture with Blaaze of the big COE do you happen to know if they were building it for Gary?
Don't know the guys name but they said the guy was from california and was big into electric powered vehicles. if you know this guy could you see if could get the grill from that build?
Next time I run into Chuck from SAR I will definetly ask about the grill. I didnt know about it at the time of the swap meet or I would have hit him up when we were shooting the bull.
Patience Gr***hopper- soon. I was away as a vendor at the largest of our local swapmeets, i came home with way less stuff and some more cash for our trip to the roadster show, after unloading my trailer i was able to get the rear bumper mounted. i'll be taking the box off for priming this week.
A few more pics, used a old ford bumper i had, i plan on making a pan for the top to hide the brackets and more of the hitch. time to sand and you all know how i feel about sanding. i think i'll sandblast the running boards.
No idea. a guy i know hauled them home from work and gave them to me. i've cut the front one down but don't have it mounted yet. i think they will work.
Thanks guys. have the wood cut for the floor and the script on the tailgate. there's been sanding. tomorow i'll do something on the honey do list- ya right LOL
Any chance you could post a few pics of the engine compartment? What are you using for a frame and drivetrain?
It's on a 72 GMC 1/2 ton frame. PS and discs. there's a build thread on here. i'll take some pics soon. box is off right now.
This is Pex's build thread. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/group.php?do=discuss&group=&discussionid=14547
still plugging away. the rainy weather is keeping from getting the primer on it. our trip to the LA roadster show will have to wait due to business ********. still wanting to get down to donn's this summer, maybe around the time we go to polson for their show.
Greg, I will be gone from June 28 til July 8th but the rest of the summer is open. You really need to come down here and kick me in the *** to get me going LOL Gotta ask what happened to the Streamline bed idea that you had? OR .................. do you just like building beds? Donn
changed my mind as far as the streamliner deck, i've sold off my harley and the roadster and didn't see a need to haul anything on the back. having this built on a 1/2 ton frame i really like the car like ride and building a box with a tonneau cover gives me lots of storage. a day of sanding to look forward to! not.
Sounds good scott. we'll probably get down there before the polson run so will PM you when something happens.
