Alright, so the '32 Chev was almost free

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by 63CadGuy, Dec 30, 2005.

  1. So I post yesterday that this guy who owns this building wants this '32 chev off his property and tells me to haul it away, so I do. Well today I have this message on my cell that the guy who owns the '32 wants his car! Go figure. So he tells me he gave the guy my number and that he'll be calling me. So this afternoon this guy calls, he's not pissed or anything, just chatting about getting the car back. Well after a little conversation the guy asks me if I want to buy the car and I ask how much and says that he paid $600 bucks for it but he would sell it to me for $500, he also said he has a ***le and rolling ch***is that goes with it!! So how can I p*** this up, so now I'm the legal owner (or soon will be) of the '32 Chev that yesterday was free.
Now my question is my friend now wants the thing in the worst way and he's a fabricator and wants to trade work on my '28 sedan for it, what do you think a ballpark average price is for this '32 Chev on rolling ch***is, with ***le worth. Now this car is all steel and very solid. I'm not looking for top value or low buck value, but just an average figure that I could tell him.

I would say if you were just going to "flip" it for profit then $1,000 (double your $-zero effort) would be great. Since its a "buddy" deal it gets more grey-area. I would figure EXACTLY the labor it is worth to you in trade.

  3. He may be your friend but, if you trade him the body and ch***is for work you will both feel cheated at the end. You won't think you got enough for the car and he will think you got to much from him. Don't ask me how I know. Sell it on eBay (gasp) and pay him for what ever he does for you. Or not.

So for 500 bucks you got a clear ***le and a rolling ch***is...sounds like back to back homeruns to me.

$1000 I think is way, way low, especially with a ***le and a rolling ch***is. With a rolling ch***is and a ***le, I'd be willing to pay twice that in cash. And **** the trading for labor ****. I've done that a few times with friends and it's always ********. They're happy to take your stuff but it's like pulling teeth trying to get the work done.

I'd say this is a way better deal than just getting the body for free. The ch***is, the ***le, and the peace of mind that it's yours legally without having to look over your shoulder all the time is worth the $500 you had to kick in all day long.

Wanna trade for a nice driver 50's or 60's car? Let me know.

I agree. Keep the body. Hide the ***le. The end.

Don't trade for labor, and don't flip a cool story until you get a better story!

Rub me on the head or something for luck will ya!?!?

First he gets it for free and then he gets a BETTER deal by spending $500.00!
I wouldn't trade it for work either. A 32 Chevy with all the wood replaced, chopped and a full rolling ch***is is a keeper. This must have been meant to be...

Keep it!!! Sell your bud the sedan for a fair price and he will most likely still be your friend in a week.

Avoid trouble, sell it to me instead! J/k, I'd keep the thing. the extra $ for a frame and ***le is well worth it. That thing will be cool! I wouldn't trade it for a cdan either.

Think of it this way..... you went to vegas with $500.00 and gambled it all & came home with $2,000. You tell your buddy and he is offering to trade the two grand in cash for $500.00 of labor......

It is plain and simple an investment!!!! Take three days sanding & preping it, squirt it satin black, set it on the ch***is and it is worth $3000.00 all day long any day of the week.

'32 Fords are hard to find, but '32 Chebbies:eek:

Be different! Sell the 28 C-Dan & build the already chopped & ***led Chevy, you end up with a Deuce 5W @ about 1/16 of the going rate;) .

You'll be one who ends up be happier in the end & will have a very righteous hot rod to boot! Do a whole HAMB build up on it & report as progress allows maybe send photos to the Vintage Tin or Garage Scene in R&C and possibly get famous.
    Ya never know:confused:

Build it, sell it, build it part way and then eBay it. Do anything except trade it!!

Personally, I think it would look *****in' semigloss black with black wires, blackwall bias, a tractor grille or track nose and a built Jimmy Six. Dry Lakes c. 1948.

Chevy coupes beat Ford sedans any day of the week.

Things are moving too fast on this deal. I've made the mistake of selling stuff too soon after I got it home. Swapping goods for labor NEVER works out fairly with "friends". Buying cars 50-50 is another loosing deal that everyone should avoid. Post a photo of your sedan , the coupe looks like a keeper to me.

The big question is what does this guy think his labor worth? Are materials included? Will you have to supply workspace and power? You need to work up some prameters as to how much you want for the coupe and using the parameters above you need to make some kind of written agreement as to what he will supply. Myself I would keep the coupe and let him come over and help you anytime he wants to:D.

For the 500 invested, keep it.
For starter's, even though 500 bux isn't small change (at least not to me anyway) it's probably not going to create a problem not having it..
Finding any old coupe in that shape, especially one chopped, with a ***le and frame is a great find.
When you add the crazy low cost to it, it become's a once in a lifetime thing.

THATS one of those car's you just slide off to the side for a later project..

Go on with the C-dan build as if the coupe never happened..just think of the missing cash as a new TV or something and forget about it..

Then, when the C-dan is done...you can turn your attention to the old coupe sitting in the corner of the shop not bothering anyone...:)

And i'll agree FULLY with everyone else, do NOT trade the car for labor!
You WILL without a doubt regret that move at some point..
Whether it be because you didn't feel the labor was worth giving up the car for, or if/when he get's it on the road you stand there and say to yourself "man, i should have just kept that car".

It's your's now..it was in my oppinion given to you..
    KEEP it!

    my 2 cents
    :D

Go to Cole Foster's website www.salinasboys.com and check out the 32 chevy coupe he built. Those Chevy's make bad *** Hot Rods and I wouldn't be in a hurry to get rid of it.

I can't tell you to not trade for the labor because I'm doing that as we speak with a friend who has a professional shop for work on my 34 ford sedan. I think the only way that works is for both parties to get full value. In other words he charges me his regular rates but I get the equivalent of the full value of what the car is worth as credit toward the labor.
