Hello all, So I rebuilt the front suspension, steering, etc in my car. I have been trying to get the upper and lower spindle bolts back in with the new seals I got from Mac's. They are licensed Ford reproductions and they are the correct ones. The problem that I'm having is I can't get the spindle bolts (top or bottom) back in without knocking the seals (dust cups) out. The uppers are about a half inch long tube, the lowers are flat and look like thick rubber washers. It doesn't tell me any tricks in the manual for putting new ones back in. I've been fighting with them all day and I'm very aggravated at this point. Anyone have any tips or tricks?
I'm only familiar with the 54 control arm bushings and ball joints. Do you have any pictures of what you are dealing with?
I'll have to get some pictures tomorrow unless anyone has a link to the parts blowup. Basically there are two big bolts on the top and bottom of the spindle. Those bolts have grease fittings. There are cups/seals like on a ball joint to keep the grease in when you grease them. I can't get them in without knocking them out while trying to get the spindle into the upper and lower control arms.
If you have the Ford Parts CD that Retro Jim has for sale it has exploded views of all Fords 1949-59 by each section.
I have that thing somewhere. I got a factory service manual so I really don't use it much. I'll try and get some pictures today of what I'm talking about. I think if anyone has had this issue, they would know exactly what I'm talking about. I don't know why the stupid seals are kicking my ****. Maybe I was just tired and frustrated and needed to walk away.
