Looking to buy a steering column for a auto trans for my 53 Ford car. Will be changing the six to a V8 and will install a auto trans also. Just trying to get the parts togeather now. Thanks Chuck. P.S. I do have a request in the wanted forumn just thought I would have a better chance here
You can use a 1952-54 Column or the EZ way is this:http://www.summitracing.com/parts/SPE-6423/ the most "traditional way "we did it back in the 50's & 60's because "column shifts ain't cool!" these shifters have the look of the old Spark-O-Matics,Ansens and Hurst "Indy" shifters.
The problem with the old Spark-O-Matic automatic floor shifters was that there wasn't a reverse lock-out like all the modern aftermarket shifters have today. I remember looping my boss's '40 Ford late one night after accidentally bumping it into reverse - at speed - with my leg. Keppit ona road, di'n hurt it and he never knew...'ceptin for the brown spot on the seat...
Thanks for the info but I want to keep things on the column and at this time I don't want a aftermarket column. Chuck
