any huge differences between 54 mercs and 52-54 fords mechanically? i mean like brekes/suspension etc kind of stuff. found a mercury capri, 4 door nearby for a bit more money than what may be considered a good deal, but it doesnt appear to need body/interior work. seller says mechanically sound, runs/drives/stops as it should. ps,pb,pw,auto and v8, but not sure size of it. it is original he says.

    any info would be appreciated.

If it is in fact a 54 Lincoln Capri, it should have a 317 Lincoln Y block with a small four barrel carb, and a GM Hydramatic trans. The power steering could be worth a small wad by itself. These were considered to be the best handling big car there was when new.

'54 Mercs and '54 Fords are pretty similar, but not to '52 or '53 of either. If it's a Lincoln, you're in luck. They are fine automobiles. Let us know...

1n 1954 Ford was a 239 Y block and the Merc is a 256 y bolck. The 256 is kind of a odd ball engine it was a one year only for the merc. If it was/is a Capri then it is a lincoln at least that is what I believe.

Very nice! Drop it a couple inches all the way around, put on dual exhausts with gl*** packs, drive the wheels off of it. The best part? It's already got Lincoln tail lights... ;)

a little pricey i think, but lincolns always were at the upper end of the price point :) your ideas were my idea as well.

Not that its my business, but you should be able to find a two door hardtop lincoln cosmo or capri in that price range. You should also be able to find a tudor or two door hardtop ford or merc in that same price range too. Lincolns, while fine cars, are a full of oddball parts. YMMV

    Dwayne,

I've always wondered about that place. Price seems ok if the car is solid, I do remember one being for sale on thelincolnforum.net not too long ago.

That, being a '54 will have a 317ci Lincoln Y block in it, not at all related to the Y blocks that we know other than they look similar. Great engines, lots of torque.

I'll warn ya upfront, Lincoln parts can be real spendy and aren't nearly as plentiful as stuff for Fords. That being said, they are kick *** cars... I'm still looking for a 56 Premiere.
