as some of you have seen i'm building 49 ford cdan. with a pontiac 400/400th. and i just finshed an eci disc brake install and lowered her at the same time by fliping the spindles (thanks Rocky) and a one inch spacer between the spring cup and lower a arm. so last nite i took her off the jackstands and lowered the jack but its still under the engine cradle. yup its stuck. but one tire was flat. so air it up and i should be good to go. now last night i measured the cradle height on my father in laws 49 woody and from the floor to the cradle it was 9 inches. and on my cdan. i got 4 inches. so too low or just right sko pictures to fallow
when you can beach the car on the rockers exiting a parking lot you went too low any thing else is good.
heres a quick couple of pics one of the swaped brakes, one of the stuck jack, and one of a screw driver to show the a arm height
These kinds of questions always make me think of that age old female question: "Does this dress make me look fat?" To which you reply, "No, your giant ass does."
It looks good, but it looks like your lower A arm is below the scrub line. If you loose a tire at speed, can I have your motorcycle?
naw its in scrub the drivers tire is flat and the arm doesnt touch the ground. and how did you see my mc.
Looks good to me. How 'bout a pic of her once you get her put back together, so we can see how she sits?
don't know if it's TOO low....but keep in mind that theres no sheetmetal on the front yet. No radiator full of water. And once it's all together and has been driven a bit, and given time to settle.....I'd say you'll be another 3/4" to 1" lower after it's done.
I agree. Can't go too low, unless you stop moving while you're driving. There is a definite learning curve to any lowered car, but you'll pick it up. I'm sure my T is going to be the same way. You'll learn every little pot hole and ridges in the road yer first couple of times out. ;-)
if i make a fist and lay it palm down i cant slide it under my frame rail and i can still pretty much drive it anywhere. i have to use a bumper jack to get my floor jack under the front x member.
No such thing as too low.LOL As mentoned earlier there is a learning curve when driving a real lowrider. You know it's just right when a guy walks buy it and you can her 'im tell his freind,"that thing is so low he could get it stuck on a gum wrapper". T.OUT
well,i see novatattoo took the pepsi challenge..and won! woo-hoo! lookin right on the money!!!now it's makin the ass end of my chevy look high (why most pictures of my chevy are only of the FRONT!) creepy
Here is my dad's 36 Ford...I altered the photo a little to make it okay to post on this site...you see because my poor old dad is practically a gold chainer. So I changed the wheels.... ...but anyway, the front bumper and grill set about 3 inches off the ground(no bags)...suprisingly..
I think you will hate the way it drives after flipping the spindles. When i got my 49 the spindles had been flipped and it was all over the road and it rubbed alot so i flipped them back and bagged it and it was great huge diff.
em planing on it i have a bit more motor work and swaping steering columbs first. then you'll get pics
its a spacer to lower lower the spring pocket. lowering the pocket one inch should lower the body 2 hey 500 did you heat and bend the up rights after you fliped the or did you leave them toe out on the top?
