But, here goes anyway. My '55 Club Sedan had the full wheel covers. After having the wheels blasted and re-painted recently (got new tires, figured what the hell!) the wheels looked so darn pretty that I thought it was a bit of a shame to cover them back up. So, I bought these: http://macsautoparts.com/1949-59-fo...ford-b5a-1130-d/camid/F50/cp/7N0H892T1000047/

They are hub caps, as opposed to the full wheel covers. They show as being for '55. But for the life of me (and I'm typically not that dumb) I can't figure out how to get them on. I can't imagine that Ford had different steel wheels depending on whether you got hub caps or wheel covers, right?? But unlike my wheel covers that have like tabs on the back, these don't.

What the heck am I missing here? Feel free to point out that the answer is obvious if need be :)

are they to big to fit tight on the raised center area? they look like and size wise id say there for a truck.

The catalog section you bought the caps from is appropriate for the car so the caps are for 55 car wheels.
Some of Fords later wheels are just fractionally bigger on the hubcap flange section of the rim. I have in the past here in Oz had to flatten the lip on the inside of the cap to fit over the mounting flange. You have probably got later model wheels.
Avoid hitting them on with a rubber hammer as you will probably dent them.

The wheels should have three raised areas that the hubcap snaps over. Not rocket science...unless someone has swapped wheels at some time in the past for others that have no raised areas.

Here's a photo of the correct wheel and the raised areas. Good luck!

  5. even the original caps i have are a very tight fit..dont make the mistake of using a rubber mallet it will dent. but they will go on..

They do fit pretty snug. If you have wheels as missysdad posted, place the cap over 2 of the three lugs and with a rubber hammer, hit it on the raised ridge above the letters in the direction of the third lug. Do not hit the cap on the flat surface or you will dent it. You dont have to hit them very hard, they should go right on. I have the same caps on my 56. Paul Selfe.

Thanks guys. They fit right on....case of me trying to do it in a hurry with wife inside waiting for me to help put the kids to bed. But I wanted to put the call out in case I needed to return them. I'm definitely happy with'em.
