While reading another thread I got to thinking about the cars I've had. I have a friend with a 59 Chevy PU that he's had for the 20+ years that I've known him, it's never run. He has driven newer cars but never an old one. I always drive older cars because that's what I like, never had a new car for me, just for the wife. The cars I've driven as an adult are: 1956 Fairlane (first one) 1960 Impala 1966 Chevelle 1956 F100 1956 Fairlane (current one) 1969 Triumph Bonneville 1973 Harley How about you guys, all old cars or some new ones thrown in?
Lately it hasn't been the Ford because it's been in the upper 90s and the Ford has a) no AC for now and B) a recently stuck open heater valve. However I've put almost 9k miles now on my 54 since last September. I use it a LOT. I have a bunch of OT modern stuff though... 97 740iL (either selling or converting to a 6 speed), 88 M5, 06 XJ8 which I have basically given to my Mom and my hated 07 GS350 AWD. I hate it but it was cheap and it's good in the snow.
Yeah i was driving my 54 every day until it got to be 95+ degrees all the time. put about 40-50 miles a day on in the past couple months. But yeah..I'm a big sissy and can't handle no AC in this hot weather haha. I have an '01 cadillac but am thinkin about trading it in for some kinda pickup.
That's the killer, plus I have to wear a shirt and tie a lot... And I have to cover 3 dealerships so rolling up covered in sweat ain't gonna look too good.
I live a little too far away from work right now, so the 54 usually doesn't get driven but every once in a while. I've got a 91 mustang gt/ 5 speed as my daily. No a/c in the AZ heat. I don't have to deal with the public at my job, so that helps a bunch with the sweating and what not. Rocky
08 duramax is my daily driver. i drive the 53 to work spareingly as we store road salt for the winter where i am, and i dont think it ever really goes away. plus, the car is black and we have a combo rock/paved parking lot. the rock part is where we park. other than that, my a/c has done a great job keeping up with this summer we have been having, and temp stays between 180 and 200 so i cant complain.
I was driving an '00 Mustang V6 with headers, 2.5" exhaust w/H-pipe into Flowmaster 40s, Eibach springs with an extra coil cut, a B&M shifter and Bullitt rims. Would've gotten a GT but with gas as expensive as it is and my commute as long as it is, I needed to get the best mileage
When I was working, it was a 105 mile round trip each day. I either drove the 56 F100 or the Harley. I worked in a warehouse so it didn't matter what I looked like when I got there. Did this for 14 years.
in the fall and winter i drive my 53 everyday, but since its been in the 100's already,, my work truck is a 2011 ford f 250 4x4, wife has an older corolla and i just picked up an 07 mazda 6 wagon awd. no soccer van for me.
I drive too far and into metro Detroit for work - no place I'd want to take my '56 on a daily basis. 2010 F150 is my daily work vehicle.
My daily is an '86 Bronco and the wife's is a 2007 Suburban. However, seeing as how the Bronco's starter just took a dump on me (and right now I have absolutely zero ambition to remedy that) and the wife is in St. Louis on a business trip with the Suburban, I guess right now my daily is my '52 Mainline.
I usually drive my '09 Fusion in. Especially during the Spring and Summer, when I take a slightly different way into work, I love to drive the '55. However my office is back behind our main foundry, out by where we have dust collectors that **** metal shavings from the plant and into bags. On top of that I also park where all the delivery trucks come and go, including ones with tons of sand on them that inevitably gets on the cars sometimes. Just not very nice. If I park up in the main lot I worry that people are going to think I'm trying to show off or something. So I drive in sparingly, but that may change soon....it's the perfect drive in for the '55, and I see about 3-5 old Fords parked in front of the diner when I reach town....makes me miss mine!
