As many know my 56 Mainline was recently painted. The roof is being stripped and redone because of paint issues, so I am actually going more beige with it. It currently is chrysler cool vanilla. I am changing that to VW harvest moon beige for a creamier color to go with the orange. I am going to paint all the inside trim, dash, window frames, dash and window trim mouldings etc. Trying to decide if I should go with the orange car color (metallic), or consider the roof beige color on the trim (base/clear non metallic)? Or something else? Like I said the whole interior is going to be done (seats, carpet, headliner) as well so I am open for any color schemes for all of the inside. My first thought was to paint the trim orange to match the car, and go with a peanut ****ery flavor for the seats, kinda like this. Give me some ideas.
The problem with the light colored dash is reflection on bright sunny days,,I considered using the exterior Vanilla that we painted part of the wagon on the dash but after painting a piece of sheet metal and holding it up to the dash area the sun was just to bright in my face. I thought it would look good but reality set in and I painted it green like the main body of the wagon. HRP
i agree, i would go darker. even though my car is turquoise i went with grey interior in several tones. my dash and trim is gray with silver flake with lace. im not doing lace anywhere else.
I vote for body colored interior trim. I can't stand to drive with a even piece of paper on the dash as it's too distracting.
Another fan of the darker color on the dash & interior trim. You'll find there's a lot of bling/glarey stuff in there and it can be a big distraction while driving. Dulled-down and darker colors would be my choice as well.
I like the color scheme for the seats in the pictures but as for the trim and dash , I am all for a darker color than a light color . Besides the bright HOT sunlight remember how bad a dash always gets all the dust and stuff that shows up easily on light colors as well . I think the trim and dash should be the same color as the outside of the car and would really look great with the seats like the picture had ! That would be a real show stopper ! Jim
I love the pics you posted. I noticed the other day that the glare off my wifes 06 Mustang (black mat finish) was really bad so I don't know what to suggest there. Maybe a dash carpet? lmao. Just kidding. Maybe the same color but with a flat or satin finish on the dash would cut down the glare.
I saw a '56 Chevy this weekend that had flat finish trim that was the same color as the upholstery. It was very very nice.
Thanks all. I thought the body color would be best to. I think I will go with that and then figure the interior out once its painted.
re: Is that a factory or made emblem above the seat? They were in '56 Crown Vics and Sunliners only, I think. I've seen used ones on ebay & C/L but at the asking prices, they must've been gold-plated. They do look nice though.
Well I havent yet actually. The car is back at the shop getting the paint issues (hopefully) corrected, so I havent had the car home for about 7 weeks now (again). If nothing changes, which it usually does, I have the trailer loaded with the intentions of bringing the car home today. Soon I will get back into figuring out my interior scheme.
The same colour as the body gives the impression of the dash blending with the hood. Gets my vote every time. Regards
