I have my '54 Vicky almost completely stripped down so I can send it out to have it blasted, but there are just a few things that are driving me nuts because I can't figure out how to get them off of the car. The first one is the damn wiper arms. I have pulled, pried and prodded but I can not get them to budge. I have heard there is supposed to be a pin or a ****on or something to push, but I have tried everything I can think of and can't get them to move. Any ideas? The second one is the vent window ***embly. There is some sort of compression nut that holds the cast piece in the door (see below). I can remove the nut by using a screwdriver to hold the center still, but once I get the nut off the center part won't move. Short of putting an impact driver on it I don't know what to do.
that looks the same as the window track retainers on my 54,its kinda like a horseshoe or C-clamp i guess you would call it , there should be just enough room sticking out under it to use a flat head screwdriver, put it under it and twist it and it should come down just enough to release whatever its holding,i DID NOT have to take the clip all the way out to release it,hope this helps
On the wiper, you should be able to lift on the arm while prying on the opposite to remove it. Try and keep it level while lifting.
http://http://s1147.photobucket.com/albums/o545/tripperdiv/ I dont know if this worked, having a hard time posting images, if it did this is the clip im talking about, after i got it half way out then i just pryed a little and it came loose
These clips held the window track to the regulator,i thought they would be the same for the vent window, it took me forever to figure out there was this little clip hiding in there, it looks like its in the picture you posted, it looks like the top of the clip sticking out,i remember i had to get a90 degree pick to digg it out, when you figure it out let us know, I'm curious.
These are an absolute pain in the neck. They retain the vent ***embly for the Convertibles, Hardtops and Gl***tops. They are also meant to allow for some adjustment of the vent frame. I think the same ***** that designed the hood hinges, designed these as well. You have to hold the center bolt with a screwdriver and then get a wrench (not a socket) on the “nut”. Hold the center bolt and loosen the “nut”. Once the "nut" is off then you can remove the bolt. If you try to do one without the other them they bind against each other. The bolt allows in and out movement and the “nut” allows some movement on the plane perpendicular to the bolt. If you wish some photos of the two pieces then send me a private message.
That's what I'm saying, I can get the nut off but I can't get the bolt out. Once the nut is off the bolt won't budge.
Bummer. I suggest you try penetrating oil first if you can get in there. Then I would take a large standard screwdriver. I used the biggest one I had and it’s design allowed a wrench to add torque just under the handle. First I gave the screwdriver some solid raps with a hammer to try to free up the threads (fine threads). Then I tried to tighten it before I had a run at backing it off. It was not easy but it came out. Another approach may be two nuts (probably at least one shaved) so you can lock them together on the end and then try a wrench on the lower nut. Problem is you only have 3/8 of an inch above the integral washer. (The bolt is about 1 3/8” overall.) You could try to heat it up but it has to travel a long way from the end to get to the frozen threads. Or weld a nut on the end and then an impact gun.
They have to come out because the vent windows need new rubbers. I think I'm going to let the body and gl*** guy worry about it.
