Not quite a cab over but the engine does sit between the driver and the p***enger in the van I am working to pick up.

Here is the van I am trying to get. I have been chasing this unicorn for about 4 years. A van pops up but it is too far, or too much, or too decayed. But this one, this one has been sitting in a mans garage just waiting for me.

Some of you may know that I run old letterpress equipment at night and on weekends. I take my posters to the HAMB Drags every year and get a booth. Well 8 of the 10. I also used to teach a design cl*** for the University of Missouri, KC. This project is a labor of love, or pain, I guess. I have been working hard to put together funds to bring this beast home. I even sold one of my favorite letterpresses to a school in Arkansas to put aside money for it. That is how excited I am to put together a mobile studio. It will be the perfect combination of vehicle, presses and ink to teach people about printmaking at community events and at colleges through out my area in Missouri and through the neighboring states.

i won't spam you by throwing the link up to my kickstarter on this post, you can PM me if you want to check it out. But if I do get the project funded I will be posting up a ton of images about the build out and road trips. This ***eol is sweet. Running, driving, roadworthy and well kept!

The pic is of the actual van. I photoshopped a window out and put the background and a logo on it but, yes, the van is in that good of condition!

Thanks McGyver. This is how the van looks but I photoshopped out 2 side windows. The rest is how it looks right now. I don't think I would need a trailer. I should be able to fly up and drive it home. If I pick it up I will get more pictures.

Does any know about big engine International Harvesters? The running gear on these ***eols are All IH stuff. The Engine is supposed to be a 354 IH gas engine. All I can find out is that they had a gas and a diesel in this engine size in 1954.

If i remember to I will see if it is listed in my old motor truck manuals. I have a few of that era and there are some weird ones in there. What are you looking for specifically?

A 354 isn't that big, they had a 549 gas v8 it is physically very big for it's cid. a cyl head on it's end comes up to my belt.

Also there is a guy close to you in the Jasper area that is into old tractors etc, he may know more about them than me. Name of Tullis.

ok, i looked through my manuals and i do not have a truck specific one for that year but looking in the tractor section i found the 354 gas with all the specs. i am ***uming that yours is a 4 cyl 354 gas? i can take pictures of the pages and send them to you if you want or you can come over and check them out.

what i have found out with the old ball makes like my DT is that they picked from a large number of suppliers and you have to search for info and parts by maker of the component. my DT has a hercules engine, ****er trans and eaton rear. it has to be sourced that way because you can't just look up 47 DT or 54 ***eol, even if you get a manual for it it will most likely be missing info on drivetrain and just be body specific items.

Well I don't have the vehicle yet. I am in the process of getting together the funds and doing my research while I do it. I am about half way there with the money. I am going to get some better descriptions about the engine and running gear.

Found some new info. It's a V-345 not 354. He had a typo. 1979. Looks like it has about the same power as a GM 350 of the same year.

Ahh, much easier. A 345 v8 is a pretty common engine. I can dig up the specs on it if you like. I drove one in a winch truck quite a bit with a 5 speed behind it. don't expect the greatest mileage but it will pull it around just fine.

Is the big truck 345 any different from the one in the Scouts?

It came out of a Budweiser delivery lodestar. The brakes went out and the driver jammed it into reverse. The guy with the ***eol bought the truck, dropped the trans and cleaned out the clutch parts, dropped in a new clutch and it has been running fine ever since. It had about 30,000 miles on the motor when he got it and it is not sitting much over 50,000 right now.

I don't think so, i will see if i can find anything in the books i have. my guess is that the only difference may be the accessory stuff and maybe cooling parts.
