The guy that lives behind my shop just had to bar-b-que some ribs during a county wide burn ban. This guy burned about a half mile just because he was stupid. The fire came right up to the back side of my shop and scorched the building luckily it didn't catch on fire.It cleared a few acres of pasture and a few trees.I am very lucky this shop is my livelyhood and contains all my tools and cars and not to mention the customer cars that are in there. My friend who is a lurker here(Fatflatty) called me and told me and stayed there with me helping me get the fires put down. Thanks Jason!!! Luckily his dad is the fire chief here and we got the call pretty quickly that the fire was at my shop. Here are a few pics.

Holy smokes! That really sucks but you are lucky for sure. That coulda been real bad, I'm glad everything is there for you and still ok. Its scary that someting you have absolutely no control over could have had such a horrible outcome.

I'm always scared for my shop during hurricane season. Like you, everything I own thats worth anything is in that shop.

  4. GLAD YOU AND YOUR SHOP ARE STILL WITH US !

Had a similar experience last spring, neighbor got to pay to have Two sides of my house re-sided, so I understand the anxiety. Amen brother.

I'm a member of the local Vol. Fire Dept. where I live. I'm always baffled why people do what they do. Every spring/early summer when things start to get dry we get a call or two for a brush fire. Often times someone has started it without a permit or on an outright banned day. Why people think it's a good idea to burn the brush pile when it's bone dry with a steady 10mph wind is beyond me.

Is the county gonna give him some kind of offical document recognizing his efforts at cleaning up the neighborhood?

One that will cost a bunch?

Glad you came out okay. Check your insurance coverage -- I found out the hard way my plasma cutter and mig welder weren't covered:(

Whew! That WAS close. I worry about fire a lot since my garage is attached.

By the way, I was born in Denison 60 years ago today.

I remember by growing up in a very rural area to always respect fire. We were served by a volunteer fire dept that had about a 15-minute response time. If anything caught fire it was as good as gone. People that do not respect a fire should have their sack slit! My FIL from MO fits into that category. Most states have laws that hold those responsible for even accidental fires financially accountable. One idiot with a match can do a LOT of damage. Happy everything is OK for you.

  13. Your Guardian Angel stopped the fire from taking the shop. I see a note from her there in the ashes. It reads, "Please establish a clear-zone around the buildings. In the future keep them weeds cut and call county code enforcement service to take action if the neighbors don't cut their weeds!

I cannot understand why people do not listen. It is bone dry here and there is a burn ban but people ignore what they here and start a fire. Really stupid!!

    Glad everything turned out OK.

I just got back from there and it's still smoldering! We went out there a few times through the night and there were still small fires burning. Some old trees were burning inside and you could see the flames up in the top of them .It was pretty wild.

Well at least if you still buy the place, the lot is already cleared for a house and you will have new grass.

He must be freinds with that redneck with the fireworks that destroyed that other county. Glad everything and everyone survived.

  28. Wow, that was close, good thing you were able to get there and assist in saving your shop. Your neighbor is really stupid, but that is obvious.

  29. Well don't just leave us hanging, were the ribs any good?
