I figured I'd post this and see if anyone else was into the old scooter/ mini motorcycles. I've had a couple of Cushman step thrus and an Eagle and really enjoyed just running around on them. I've always wanted an old Harley Hummer or one of the Mustangs, but none have ever come up on a poor boy's budget. If any of you guys got 'em, post some pics. If I can figure out how to transfer pics from my old puter to this one I'll post mine.

    I had a couple of Cushmans back in 1967 & 68

Got my first 4 traffic tickets on a Mustang Scooter

  3. One of my friends has a cushman collection. I've been around mustangs some. I like them better because they look more like a cycle. The friend who goes on cushman club rides says the mustangs aren't dependable and have to be hauled home.

A lot of the hot rodders I knew had them because that was their first transportation. I got into them cause I thought they were cool as shit. I've never had a chance to ride one or be around the Mustangs, but I know where you're coming from on their looks, I like them better too. Just too dang pricey.

Here in New Mexico a 13 year old can legally ride a 50cc street legal bike on the streets as long as they take the exam and have insurance. I'm toying with the idea of getting another one and working it in under the law for my son to ride. Better than him riding a YSR or something.

I just bought 2 Simplex Servi-cycles. One is complete and the other is complete but missing the motor.

When i was little(er) my grandpa had a harley hummer and two of the harley/aermacchi sprints. Those things were awesome, i blame him and those cycles for my motorcyle obsession

Yep, I've got a '63 Vespa 125 that I want to get out this spring. It runs great, just needs a throttle cable. A friend of mine got it from a tenant of his who didn't pay his rent so they gave up the scooter. Here's a pic.

Hey I have a 1956 cushman eagle that came in a box with a 5hp and 8hp for $600 8 years ago from a guy that took it apart and lost interest. I ride it around, but I have gained weight an that 8hp and clutch don't go that fast with this lumpy ass on it.

I've got two Cushmans, a 1942 auto and a 1948 2 speed both step through. The 42 runs good and is fun the 48 I'm still working on.--TV

They make those Vanguard conversions to cure that.:D One of the Cushman runs I was on somebody had one that was pushing 50hp if I remember right. The thing was a friggin' ROCKET.

Send it to me, my ass might have a few less lumps.

What keeps a Cushman from being street legal? Can you make one legal? Were they ever?

They are street legal and as far as I know they always were. The thing I have to look at is changng the engine so it comes under the 50cc limit for my kid. Maybe I could convince the DMV that it already is.;)

Cushmans rock, now. In 1962 they didn't. I had an 57' Eagle in '62 that I used to deliver newspapers on my paper route. I later broke the crank and my folks bought me a new '63 Eagle. Both were 5hp with two speed trans. They were street legal in AZ and 14 year-olds could be licensed to ride them since they were 5hp or less.

If you do a Google search on Cushman, you will come up with a list of Cushman sites mostly for the Cushman clubs. There are people out there who specialize in Cushman stuff. One guy is making reproduction Eagle frames in his garage. Another is making aluminium hubs and billet wheels with disc brakes. Several guys are adding the V-twin Vanguard engines for more hp. Othere guys are selling hop-up parts for the Cushman flatheads. And to top it all off Dennis Carpenter, the repro Ford parts guy, has a separate Cushman catalog and repops all kinds of Cushman parts.

I'm thinking of finding an old Eagle for myself and rebuilding it. NOT restoring it, rebuilding it and souping it up.

My love of flatheads comes from my learning about engines and mechanical things on my old Cushman.

  29. We've got a 65 Allstate project, a 61 Lambretta Li150 series 2, and my Dad has a Cushman (not sure what model)...

Can't find a pic of the Allstate, but here's a pic of the Lammy.

  30. Anyone hear of King Midget? I was in a junk store last month and they had a King Midget III car buried under a pile of other crap. I just did a Google search and it looks like they made Cushman-esque scooters too. The car was pretty far gone, but I love the name.
