Hello all! Ive recently decided I needed a hobby and have always wanted to have a cl***ic car. I purchased a 1955 customline that has already been started to turn into a g***er and made a mess of the body and electrical system. I'm not much of a mechanic and have little to no fabrication skills but I would love to learn both. I just started tearing into the car and finding a few small rust spots as well as trying to flush the fuel system out which I could use some help with. Anyways, I look forward to learning from everyone here and if anyone has any threads, sites, etc that would be much appreciated. Thanks!

welcome from the other side of the state! Golfing is a "hobby"; cl***ic cars fall somewhere in between a lifestyle and an unhealthy obsession. my 1st piece of free advice: don' t be afraid to try doing ANYTHING yourself. you can always pay someone else to fix it if you absolutely have to, but trying it yourself first is the best way to learn. any photos??

Thanks for the welcome everyone! I'm definitely going to be doing most everything myself and learning along the way- aside from the transmission I have to have rebuilt. I'd post pictures but it's hard to get them on here from my phone. To paint a picture... The car is a rolling vietnam memorial courtesy of the previous owner complete with custom airbrush scenes on every panel. While Im grateful for our veterans that's not my cup of tea.

On a side note- does anyone know of any guides or help with doing a fuel system flush?

Welcome! Regarding the fuel system, how long has the car sat non-operative? Our ****py ethanol gas will leave a nasty chalky film if allowed to sit overtime also you may find a gooey varnish in the tank if it has been over a year or more.Best solution is take the tank out and have a radiator shop boil it out and replace the 5/16" line coming from the tank to the fuel pump,Stabil is a good inexpensive product that should be used if a car is going to be stored for an extended length of time.

It sat for a year or so with a full tank of gas. I pulled the tank and cleaned it with muriatic acid after I drained it and found huge clumps if rust. I was going to flush the lines with a cleaner buy I don't know where the best place is to dump a cleaner in to blow it out. Also, how do I check the fuel pump to make sure it is ok? What am I looking for with that?
