i have a '73 ford cl*** c motor home that the body is in real bad shape. the rest runs and stops very well. what i was thinking is, can you make a coe out of a regular pickup cab and fenders? i know the hood would need work and the doors, once the fenders were moved back, but could it be done? i was thinking of a ford like a '53-'56 or an ad chevy truck '49-'55? i geuss you can make just about anything out of anything if you want to do the work. this just doesn't look that difficult for me. i know where there is a '53 ford and a '46 ford big flatbed truck for $500.00 dollars each. as you can tell, i don't really know that much about the big trucks.
someone was making a '47-53 Chevy COE out of a regular cab and front fenders. they only used a cabover hood and built around that.
I guess you could, but I think you'd be much happier and farther ahead starting with an actual coe. I bought my 40 ford coe for less than a thousand. Bob
i like that $1000. buck deal but, i live in the land of taxes and turds, socal. the least i see coe cabs for is, around $2500.-$3800. for that kind of money, i think i will try to build my own. i know it seems like a lot of work, but i have built other things that i believe were more work. there isn't anything much i can't do in my shop, within reason. i spent 36 years as an aerospace engineer and spent most of my money on tools and such, so i think this is doable. after saying that, i must say, i haven't really got up close and personel with a coe cab before, so maybe i am just full of ****!!
Check out LUXLX's build. Exactly what you are talking about. You can see it on the last page of the What ch***is are you using thread also.
my condolences to you there in the land of fruit & nuts. our son live in HB, so I know what you mean. I say if you can see ittin your mind, you can probably do it. keep us posted.
