I am currently trying to install a 1990 5.0 with a aod into my 1953 ford. I have loosely installed the trans and motor into the car. My problem is the trans is close to the tunnel and the oil pan is resting on the frame. The instructions I received with the mount kit says to use a early bronco oil pan or 79 and up oil pan (dbl sump). I have a dbl sump pan that came with the motor. The front of the pan is about 5 1/2 inchs deep, was wondering if they make one that is not as deep. I think I only need about an inch or two so the trans has room around the tunnel.
I'm also looking into a HEI distributor for the car, found one at speedway for about 130.00 any input.
    Thanks for any input

PS the kit is from Butchs

I used a duraspark dist. for a 85 mustang with a steel gear and a chevy hei module. The dist. was about 70 bucks and the module was 20.

I did that to steer away from the big chevy hei cap. Hid the module under the dash.

I'm putting a Y-block in my 53 and to clear the drag-link and the front cross-member I had to create a center sump pan because they never made one for Y-blocks. I'm using the old style Hurst mounts and for the first 3" inches of the cross member it's very shallow, the pan can only be about 1 3/4" deep. I imagine this is somewhat similar with the 302, though probably not as bad depending on the mounts. You can use a rear sump pan, but if you do you'll have to drop the drag link. I think I read in a post where someone else was putting a 302 in their 53' that they had to use a center-sump pan out of an Econoline van to make it work.
