So, my 55 currently has a 302 / C4 in it. It was that way when I bought it. Anyone put a T5 in a 55 or 56? I'm mostly wondering about clutch linkage and what would be the easiest setup to adapt: mechanical linkage, cable or some sort of hydraulic setup.

Will pretty much any T5 bellhousing work? Should I try to find a manual pedal setup for a 55/56 or take a stab at adapting a late mustang setup or something like that?

Any pointers would be helpful, this being my first Ford and all...

I would try to find a stock clutch pedal and all the linkage that went with it. Some 302's have a threaded hole for a clutch ball stud, or you could use a bracket off two bell housing bolts for the ball.

I used a hydraulic throw out bearing in mine. I have only driven it a couple of miles since installing it but it works fine so far and no immediate leaks. Here's a link to the build thread. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/group.php?do=discuss&discussionid=22415&pp=20
I got the bearing and m/c from Summit.

Wilwood 3/4 in. bore m/c mounted $49.94. The little one on the right. http://www.summitracing.com/parts/WIL-260-1304/

Put a hydaulic clutch in mine, love it so far. Mine is a Tremec TKO trans though. Highly recommend it for a trans that someone already makes a bracket for and the T5 is popular so your in luck, as I was. All the info and parts you need here. The guy that makes them hangs out at ford muscle forums a lot and I have talked to him a bunch, good guy.

I know there was a few changes internally, but what is the difference between the world cl*** and non-world cl*** T5s, as far as fitment is concerned? What is the best T5 to look for that will be the easiest to bolt up to a 302 in our cars? I'm guessing anything from a 5.0L Fox Mustang would be a good bet?

Thanks for the info fellas, that helps.

Another question for those of you who have done the swap: if you're using a normal, non-s10 tail T5, where did the shifter end up coming through the floor? Any issues or interference with the bench seat?

Bumping this back up. I'm getting ready to start the swap. Can anyone help out with where I can expect the shifter to come up through the floor if I'm not using an S-10 tailshaft?

Basically, trying to figure out whether I'm going to need to swap to buckets right away or not...

On my '54, it came up right in front of the stock bench seat. Unfortunately I don't have any pics at the moment, but I'm using a Lokar MSL6B2 Double Bend Shift Lever (16 Inch), and it clears the bench by about .5" pulled all the way back.

I'd like it to be a little further forward just for looks, but it functions well as is.
